#msg5989233CatalinaD : The weird thing to me is...is that Kingwood, per capita, actually has quite a bit less retail than a lot of other communities of similar size....and even so, we have a lot of empty retail buildings...kind of puzzling to me.

Joe : I guess I just kind of miss the small town kind of feel that Kingwood used to have, and being surrounded by more trees and nature. I remember when we used to have unique places like Cliff's that were really good, and stores like Winn's (a long time ago), or more recently Stein Mart and/or Palais Royal.

#msg5989229TEXASGIRLMAMMA : I agree with filling up the empty spaces. Painted Tree is the latest place to be vacated. I wouldn't mind if SteinMart came back!

Cbear : SteinMart would be great.

Joe : Maybe it has something to do with the ease of sitting on our couch in our PJs and ordering online. I have to admit the Idea of getting dressed just to go to get one little item at Walmart does not thrill me. I also think we have been lacking in shopping for so long we are used to having to leave KW for that. I hate I have become so reliant on online ordering. One day it will be all we have and it will not be good~ prices will go up!

#msg5989240CatalinaD : Traffic is always going to be here, face the facts. I am for new stores.

UptownGirl : new stores and options are welcome in my opinion. New development is not. Kingwood was a master planned community that got taken over by city politics. The roadways and water drainage arteries were never designed for more growth. Can anyone produce upgrades to the infrastructure of these? Have any you experienced the problem of gas lines being too small to supply fuel for your generators? These changes require major reconstruction of infrastructure.

UptownGirl : I am well aware that traffic is a fact here. Doesn't mean I have to like it. I like new stores, I just don't see the need for a whole new, big development for them. I am hoping that the construction on Northpark, with an overpass to 59, will help with all of that.

Joe: agreed; a concept they bring up every once in awhile, to see if interest or investors are awakened.

The heb center on kingwood drive and w lake houston was built over 3 retention ponds. Did the area have any issues when it was an apartment complex? Think 1996ish? Convenience of residents has overtaken common sense. Both traffic and runoff has increased. Both hofo and Randall's were available. Your precious Chick-fil-A, why not the old Exxon station?

We need another great cozy place like Zachary's that is a local live music hub. I wish they hadn't retired and sold to those horrible new owners that ran it into the ground. The local breweries and taverns are trying, but they rely on food trucks.

A restaurant with a bar was a big draw and had something for everyone.

P.S. - Yes, I'm still bitter about how that all went down.

donnatella : we like lake houston brewery. Expensive but fun experience. Not kingwood proper. I have no affiliation with the business.

Zz98721 : I like it too, but it's outside (heat, bugs, etc.) and dependent on the elements. Also not exactly easy access.

No new developments anywhere until the either refurbish, or construct on already defunct properties. They built, let rot, and abandon to build new, leaving a cesspool behind to attract rodents of animal and human kind. Jmo
