What are the cement barriers that are being placed in front of the new Foster Elementary School? Those look like an accident waiting to happen. There are 2 in front of the school and one on the corner.

Maybe to stop you from parking so close to the crosswalk? That school is surrounded by apartments so a lot of cars on the street.

Gammyof2 : It is awful! The concrete pieces stick out into the second lane a few inches and they have them on all sides of the school. I think it is going to make pickup at that school a nightmare. I hope they will take them out.

Gammyof2 : Probably so some drivers don't do something stupid. If not physically blocked, someone will do it.

Seems like they should paint a reflective color around the edges atleast.

They should at least put some kind of reflective material or lights on them for night drivers.

I noticed those when I drove by on Friday morning. That's the first time I've ever seen something like this on a public street. I don't get their purpose.

It would be very easy to hit one of those and mess up your car's front-end alignment.

Gammyof2: Gammyof2:

New curb extensions: The general contractor for the Foster Elementary project is installing these structures to comply with the City of Houston's design and traffic study guidelines.

The curb extensions at Twin Springs Drive and Lake Village Drive, as well as along Crystal Springs Drive, are designed to slow traffic, shorten pedestrian crossing distances, and improve visibility at crosswalks. They are not intended to block legal parking or change the direction of travel. Instead, they are installed in areas near stop signs and crosswalks where vehicles should not park. There will be additional extensions installed across the street from the ones already in place.

Foster ES Curb Extensions

The district is working with traffic engineers and the general contractor to determine the best method to increase visibility of these new safety measures. We encourage all families to stay alert, drive slowly, and keep crosswalk areas clear - especially during arrival and dismissal.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
They are for safety reasons. Just put the phones down and pay attention while you are in a school zone.
If you notice they are mostly at corners. Keeps people from parking where they shouldn't.
As for E bikes and E Scooters.
These riders are doing a lot of unsafe moves with their bikes and scooters. You shouldn't be riding on the streets. These vehicles of sort do not have plates. And don't have insurance. They are quiet so people can not hear you coming near them in their cars. I observed a adult rider in one e bike he had a toddler on the bike with him. I turned off and he went on toward North Park. Children need to wear head Gear protection.
I think the E bikes are cool and they appear to be a lot of fun. But where are the safety rules, where is the safe place to ride them where they are useful. Rules? I don't any one knows when they might be stopped by and officer. ONly after they have been responsible for an accident.
I observed riders many children may 10 to 12 years old riding in and out of lanes in the parking lot at HEB on Kingwood Drive.
Is there any way these riders ( children can enjoy their E bikes and be safe?) I assume they can ride on the greenbelt. Do we have classes so they might be able to ride to school safely on the E bikes? This is an important topic here in Kingwood for sure!
