As the Church Accountant, you will be responsible for all daily finance functions for the Church. You will also serve as the Church staff primary interface with the Finance Committee of the Session as well as the Church external Bookkeeper. You will be expected to have significant interface with and provide support to Church pastoral staff and congregation as well as members of Session. Responsibilities: • Contributions – Processes all contributions (cash, stock, etc.) and related deposits and sends periodic statements to members • Pledges and Annual Stewardship Campaign– Receives and records annual pledges throughout the annual stewardship campaign and provides general support to the overall campaign • Auditor – Liaison to outside auditor for financial matters • Banking – Serves as primary contact for church’s banking needs, including coordinating check signors • External Bookkeeper – Liaison to Church external bookkeeper, including monthly general ledger and journal entry review and coordination payroll information • Payables – Provides support and backup to Accounts Payables processing as necessary • Internal Controls – Provides general oversight and monitoring of financial internal controls • Accounting System – Oversees performance and maintenance of Shelby accounting system • Credit Card – Coordinates Church credit card program including initial applications • Leadership Support – Provides finance support for the various Session Committees, primarily Finance and Missions Committees; Attends monthly Finance Committee meetings • Congregation Interface – Provides support/responses on financial matters as requested from congregational members • Reporting – Coordinates IRS reports (W-2s, 1099s, payroll taxes, etc.) and monthly financial reporting • Other – Primary Church contact for Texas Presbytery Foundation and Presbytery Pension Board, including coordination of employee benefit enrollment; Coordinates sanctuary flower schedule Qualifications: • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite • Shelby Systems software experience preferred • High School diploma and college degree or significant college level Accounting/Finance courses completed • 3+ years of accounting/finance experience • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Professional, tactful, confidential, and pleasant demeanor and attitude • Self-starter, takes initiative and able to work independently • Effective and responsible team player Benefits: We value our employees’ time and efforts.
