Elev8 Grenada Benefit (postponed from 5/11 to 6/1 due to flooding) Event Details:

Elev8 art and music event set to help raise funds for education projects in Grenada

Victoria, Grenada is not exactly a tourist location. You won’t find big hotels, posh beaches or large swimming pools. It is a small fishing village in the northwest corner of the island nation of Grenada. It doesn’t get the attention of other areas around the world in need, but a group led by members from Kingwood Christian Church are trying to change that.

The group has been leading mission trips to Grenada since 2012 and will be heading down there once again at the end of June. The team of 18 will work at the Victoria School for Special Education on a project that is expected to cost around $10,000 USD. The work project includes building a gazebo which will be used as an accessible outdoor learning space, among other smaller projects. The team will also paint another local high school.

Kingwood Christian Church, who is hosting the event, is a congregation with a strong focus on community service and education and especially advocates for those who are marginalized and don’t have a voice. Rev. Dr. Chad Mattingly shares, “when we learned of the unmet needs at the Victoria school of Special Education, we jumped at the chance to come along side this wonderful school and bless these children and their families.”

As a way to raise money and elevate awareness for this wonderful cause, Kingwood Christian Church is sponsoring a night of art and music called Elev8. The one night event will be held at Kingwood Christian Church on June 1 from 7-9 pm Elev8 will feature an art show with the works of several local artists and auction with dessert and coffee. The evening will also include live musical entertainment ranging from 40s jazz, opera, and classical piano performed by a student from Kingwood Park H.S. to a steel drum band and church vocal groups from around the Kingwood area. The concept Elev8 is designed around several themes. There will be eight local musicians, and eight artists on display while guests sample eight varieties of dessert. It also marks eight weeks until the Mission begins.

“We are hopeful that the community will come out to support our fundraiser and support the students at the Victoria School for Special Education,” said mission trip coordinator Ryan Nelson-Paryag, who is a native of Grenada and helped lead these mission trips throughout the years. “The proceeds from this even will help us build a much-needed accessible outdoor learning space and tackle other projects around the community.”

Advance tickets for this special evening for a special cause are $20 for individuals or $30 for couples. So consider coming out to elevate your mind, spirit, heart and palate Sat. June 1st. For more information contact Kingwood Christian Church at 281-360-7910 or Christy Janacek 281-687-5381.
