Travis McCormick first proposed the idea of a community-wide cleanup at a Kingwood Chamber meeting. According to his widow, Ethel McCormick, “Travis suggested we could get the Scouts, Key Club, National Honor Society, and homeowners to dedicate one day a year to help clean up our area.” Travis was able to do some early organizational work, but it was Sparky Nolan and Rick Alspaugh who carried the effort forward, running the event for more than 10 years.
Now, local organizations, including the Humble Noon Lions, Kingwood Rotary, and Keep Kingwood Green, have joined forces to revive Kleenwood Day in McCormick’s honor.
