About Us

Kingwood Ballet, a DBA of Kingwood Dance Theatre, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) pre-professional performing ballet company serving Kingwood and the surrounding communities of northeast Houston.

Founded in 1984 by Sheryl Rowland, Kingwood Ballet was created to fill a need for quality performing arts, particularly dance, in the Kingwood area. For more than four decades, the organization has brought professional-quality ballet productions to local audiences, providing a family-friendly and affordable way to experience the performing arts close to home.

Under the direction of Kelly Agnew, Kingwood Ballet continues to provide dancers with excellent training, challenging performance opportunities, and the experience of performing alongside contracted professional dancers. Each year, approximately 130–150 young dancers participate in Kingwood Ballet's productions, developing not only as performers but also valuable life skills such as confidence, teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Kingwood Ballet's productions also help introduce younger audiences to the arts and foster a lasting appreciation for dance within the community. By bringing professional-quality performances to northeast Harris and Montgomery counties, Kingwood Ballet creates opportunities for both dancers and audiences to experience the joy of live performance.

Kingwood Ballet is proud to be recognized as an Honor Company by Regional Dance America/Southwest Region. Regional Dance America (RDA) is a national organization of pre-professional dance companies and ensembles dedicated to fostering excellence in dance education and performance.


Sugar Plum Tea

A magical event enjoyed by all, to start the Holiday Season with visits to the “Sugar Plum Salon”, photos with Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy, buffet table with an assortment of tea sized finger foods and an additional table featuring sweets of all kinds imaginable.  Try your luck with our numerous raffle baskets and door prizes. Visit the Kingwood Ballet Boutique for special mementos, gifts and the highly popular selection of dancer decorated pointe shoes. ​The tea also features a mini-performance of the Nutcracker Ballet. This two hour event is a perfect opportunity to introduce young guests to the ballet who are not quite ready to sit through the full length Nutcracker performance. All family members are welcome!  In addition to being a traditional Mother/Daughter event, the Sugar Plum Tea is also becoming a Father/Daughter event.

Nutcracker Ballet
A holiday tradition brought to life on stage, Kingwood Ballet presents its 41st annual production of this beloved ballet.

Join Clara as she celebrates the holidays with her family and friends and then embarks on a journey through the land of sweets. Performed in the beautiful Performing Arts Theatre at Atascocita High School where every seat has a great view.




Ballet Gala
Kingwood Ballet presents an evening of dance at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Zilkha Hall, featuring classical and contemporary ballets, modern and jazz pieces presented by the Senior and Apprentice company members. Also, presenting a ballet showcasing our Junior and Petite members of the company.


The Little Mermaid

We are celebrating! NEW to Kingwood Ballet's storybook collection.

Children of all ages will love this classic story by Hans Christian Andersen of a young mermaid princess "Marina" who is fascinated by the human world. After rescuing a handsome prince from drowning during a horrific storm, she longs to be part of his world and she makes a deal with the Sea Witch in order to have human legs. The love story continues as the Sea Witch works her spells trying to keep Marina from marrying the prince.

This ballet features even our youngest members of the company dancing. From our Petite to our Senior company members, the ballet is filled with delightful characters such as Sea Nymphs, Jellyfish, Sea Horses, Mermaids and Queens. 

​Provided in Dinner/Theatre format this event is unique to our community. Begin your evening with a buffet dinner by Italiano's and visit Kingwood Ballet's boutique for mementos and decorated dancer pointe shoes prior to enjoying this full length two act ballet. 

​​​Friday - Opening Night Celebration! "Tea Under the Sea"   A fun time during intermission!  Dancers in costume will join the audience for a Tea Party. This is the perfect time for photographs with your favorite characters and don't forget those autographs to fill the books provided to each guest.  Special desserts crafted by Bird & Twine specifically for this event will be served to your table along with a special beverage served in tea pots, and a few other surprises!
