One Acre Farm
Our mission is to provide outdoor activities, educational information & skills relating to small scale sustainable living & farming to children/youth/adults. We specialize in outdoor programs for families of children with autism or similar special needs that encourage exploration, communication & potential.
Located in Porter, TX, approximately 35 miles north of Houston, and established in 1998, One Acre Farm is a small family homesteadSpecialized activities specifically for children with autism is provided through the non-profit One Acre Farm Educational Foundation.
ONE ACRE FARM
We are a small, educational farm providing activities, classes and workshops for adults, children, youth, scouts, and homeschoolers. All child and youth activities are open to all children, both neurotypical children and children with autism or other special needs.
We also offer:
Curi-Us offers a variety of math and technology resources, including online, in person classes and now small group classes at One Acre Farm.
TODDLER ART & PLAY
We believe young children thrive being outside with nature, running, playing, exploring, experimenting, and getting dirty. We provide a 'yes' environment for the toddlers to navigate through with their parent(s).
PRESCHOOL ART & PLAY
We believe young children thrive being outside with nature, running, playing, exploring, experimenting, and getting dirty. We provide a 'yes' environment for the preschoolers to navigate through with their parent(s). There is no wrong way to play or experiment with the activities. In fact, we try to encourage toddlers to have freedom to be creative and use items in unexpected ways.
SENSORY SUNDAY ART & PLAY
Activity time exclusive to families of children with autism.
We offer the same Art & Play activities exclusively to families of children with autism. Come out and enjoy the outdoors and activities at your own pace. Let this be a time that the whole family can enjoy each other and make memories. Meet other families with your similar experiences and bond and possibly make new friends.
PRE-K FARM SCHOOL
We believe that children need to be outside and moving around, experiencing the routines of care for animals, being introduced to skills like making mud pies and hammering nails. Best of all, we believe that children need to get dirty. Like life on a working farm, these classes and sessions take place rain or shine.
Catherine Griffin and Nicole Jones are a mother/daughter team of educators and farmgirls on a mission to encourage others' potential through horses and farming.
