The Northeast Hospital Foundation’s In the Pink of Health committee is pleased to announce that Mamie McCullough, PhD, cancer survivor and motivational speaker, as the keynote speaker for its annual luncheon on October 21.

McCullough is a motivational and inspirational keynote speaker known as the “I Can” lady. She has authored several popular books, including I Can. You Can, Too!, Get it Together — And Remember Where You Put It, and I'm Not Waving ... I'm Drowning.

Throughout her life, McCullough has overcome many adversities, including poverty and breast cancer. Through these obstacles, she has become living proof that it’s not how you start that matters; it’s how you finish. Instead of yielding to her circumstances, McCullough learned that happiness can be found in every situation, and success comes from living each day to the fullest. McCullough will share her life’s lessons and inspire guests to “bee” all they can “bee” by turning obstacles into opportunities.

“When deciding on this year’s theme, it did not take long to find stories of the bumble bee woven into Mamie’s presentations,” states Nancy Shortsleeve, co-chair of the 2016 luncheon. “While scientifically proven to be unable to fly, the bumble bee overcomes its aerodynamic obstacles and achieves what science says it can’t.”

Lynette Calfee, 2016 luncheon co-chair adds: “Mamie’s story about the bumble bee is one of inspiration, motivation, and endurance. We are excited to have a keynote speaker who is sure to make an incredible impact on our guests.”

Proceeds from this year’s luncheon will support the Northeast Hospital Foundation’s community programs, including Project Mammogram, as well as the cancer programs of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. Various sponsorship opportunities are available, including a new $50 Pearl Pink package which allows sponsors to honor a loved one who has battled cancer. The loved one will be celebrated during the event through on-screen and program recognition. Pearl Pink sponsors will also receive a commemorative gift in honor or in memory of their loved one.
