Lone Star College announced that student enrollment hit an all-time high, with 82,818 credit students attending this fall, a 7 percent increase over fall 2013.

This record-breaking credit student enrollment brings the total LSC student population to more than 95,000 when combined with non-credit workforce and community education students. Lone Star College continues to be the largest institution of higher education in the greater Houston area and one of the fastest-growing in the nation.

I believe this growth illustrates the tremendous confidence our community has in Lone Star College to provide a high-quality education for students thats affordable, flexible and close to home, said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor.

Lone Star College is the college of choice; one out of every four area May high school graduates attends Lone Star College the following fall, said Chancellor Head. Our average class size is 23 students and our faculty members are top-notch, excelling as teachers, mentors and scholars. Thats why more than 95,000 students choose LSC."

The fall 2014 enrollment of 82,818 credit students includes an additional 5,197 over last falls enrollment of 77,621 credit students.

Chancellor Head noted that the average-size college in Texas enrolls about 5,500 students.

Were adding the equivalent student population of an average Texas community college each year, Chancellor Head said.

Every Lone Star College logged significant student enrollment growth. LSC-CyFair hit a major milestone as the first Lone Star College to enroll more than 20,000 credit students, with 20,384 credit students enrolled, representing a 4 percent increase over last year. LSC-CyFair was built 10 years ago to accommodate 10,000 students and the 20,384 student population illustrates the continuing and growing community need.

LSC-University Park posted the largest percentage increase at 27 percent with 9,261 credit students enrolled. Other Lone Star Colleges fall enrollment and percentage of growth over 2013 includes: LSC-Kingwood, 12,837 credit students, 7 percent; LSC-Montgomery, 13,254 credit students, 4 percent; LSC-North Harris, 17,721 credit students, 3 percent; and LSC-Tomball, 9,361 credit students, 6 percent.

Lone Star College has recorded unprecedented growth over the past few years adding more than 33,000 students since 2007, a 68 percent increase, making it one of the fastest-growing colleges in the nation.

This growth at LSC mirrors the population growth in the LSC region, which has added 176,000 people in the last four years. Projections call for the LSC service area to add an additional 241,800 people by 2019
