The Lake Houston Area Chamber's Seminar Committee will host Reducing Stress Through Mindfulness at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 20 at the Chamber Office.
Lead by Linda V. Safranek, M.A., L.P.C., the seminar will teach a whole new approach to reducing stress through practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness is non-judgmental awareness of the present moment-to-moment experience as it unfolds. It is state of mind that can be intentionally cultivated to nourish a sense of well-being and inner calm. According to research, when the mind is calm and focused, better decisions are made, communications with others are less reactive and more skillful, and creativity is enhanced.
Safranek is a licensed professional counselor with a private practice in Kingwood. She has a master's degree and specialized training in mindfulness-based treatments for stress, depression and anxiety, as well as training and experience in marital/relational counseling, art therapy, grief and loss and faith-based counseling.
She has also provided workshops and classes for individuals and groups based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR). This program was developed at the Stress Clinic at University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. Variations of this program are currently being utilized world-wide by many hospitals, clinics and treatment centers to promote self-care, well-being, stress reduction, symptom relief and lasting behavioral change.
After living abroad for 13 years, Safranek and her husband Richard have resided in Kingwood since 2004. Linda has maintained her own mindfulness meditation practice for more than 25 years and has taught meditation both domestically and internationally since 1996.
This seminar is free for Chamber members to attend or $10 for guests. RSVP for this seminar by Tuesday, October 19 online at http://www.lakehoustonareachamber.org/ or call 281-446-2128.
