We are very pleased to invite the public to this special event, where Kingwood art students, Houston artists and craftsmen and local community organizations are donating art and hand-made Christmas ornaments in order to raise awareness and support for the wonderful work and services which FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center in Humble provides for our community, Kristine Larson, art gallery director, said.

The Culture and Art Club will host a reception on Dec. 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. to kick off the first ever Christmas Art Show. Admission to the show is free, but all artwork and hand-made pieces will be sold for $10 or more.

The club decided to donate the proceeds to FamilyTime because back in February the club participated in a service learning project where we taught the children how to make Origami. These were put into an colorful arrangement, and hung from the ceiling  in Family Times living room, said club president Hilary Scullane. We saw the need, had club members that were directly affected by domestic violence, and had already developed a relationship with Family Time, so it just made sense to us all.

Lone Star College-Kingwoods Art Gallery will also display works exemplifying contemporary interpretations of Christmas. In addition to the ornaments for sale, the media showcased will be installation, photography, and paintings. Some of the artists displaying work in the show are from the inner city such as Jonatan Lopez and Raymond Dunlap. Other artists include Amanda Laforet, Andrew Clapp, Chris Bodine, Dede Farris, Hilary Scullane, Mari Omori and Max Fields.

The Art Gallery is located in the Student Fine Arts building and is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The gallery will be closed December 23-January 4. For more information, call 281-312-1534.
