The weather is fixing to do a 180 from the beautiful day that it was today, and brew up some cold and wind for us on Thursday...And maybe even reach freezing temps early Friday morning. I doubt that it'll actually get that low this week, but the mere forecast reminds me yet again to share this hilarious (and somewhat true) stereotype of winter weather, weather reporters and southeast Texas.

At this time we are having a wintry mix, sleet and very big wet snowflakes.  When the dog came in she was crunchy from the sleet. 4951

@donnatella:  Unusual weather (heat, freezes, hurricanes, storms, drought, etc) give weathermen and field reporters their chance in the spotlight.  So they often exaggerate the events.  If the temperature is expected to get anywhere near freezing, they will say it's going to freeze.  If they say it's going to be just above freezing, and it freezes, they get a lot of angry "customers".  So, in their mind, it's better to predict a freeze and everyone will be happy if it doesn't quite get that cold.
