Escape Artist Texas is Kingwood's first escape room. As a matter of fact, it's the only one north of the loop. Owner Mike McIlroy started this adventure last year after a trip to Toronto, which is somewhat of an escape room mecca with more than 30 different locations. Mike was hooked immediately!! After spending his return trip thinking about bringing one to Kingwood, it was all but decided. With his wife's (Amber) support, Mike said goodbye to his days in the oil & gas industry and began his plan to fuel the imaginations of aspiring Sherlocks. To those wondering what an escape room is, here's wiki's description: "An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit." {Having now gone through an escape room myself, I can say this is an accurate description. Except they left out how much fun it is...We had a blast testing out the Dexter-themed Kill Room last night.}Escape Artist Texas is set to open next Friday, 5/6/16. Mike has been doing test runs in both rooms (Kill Room & Live Free Or Die) with friends/family for the last few weeks, and they are ready to go. They will eventually feature a total of five escape rooms. They invite you to enter a world of your choosing. Be prepared for an exciting and challenging adventure of solving puzzles, cracking codes, and unraveling mysteries from within. Enjoy an escape from reality with 4-10 friends in 60 minutes while testing your wits. Book now to see if you have what it takes to become an Escape Artist! Escape Artist Texas2628 Chestnut RidgeKingwood, TX 77339(281) 608-7550[behind Stein Mart, between Elite Treats & the inspection place]FAQ's:http://escapeartisttexas.com/frequently-asked-questions/Check out their FB page:https://www.facebook.com/EscapeArtistTexas/timeline 4951

For anyone now asking "what is there to do in Kingwood?" you can direct them here.  I've never had so much fun feeling completely stupid all at the same time.  This really was a group effort at problem solving, everyone putting their best skills forward...detailed thinking, quick math skill, logic, deduction, keeping calm under pressure, etc.  For me it was fast notetaking, and my love of the TV show DEXTER to recognize one element that only DEXTER lovers would know.   Mike was very passionate about the game and does his best to make it a wonderful experience for everyone.  He's very helpful without ruining the fun or solving it for you.  He's also very open to any and all feedback, as far as improvements, or suggestions for themes for the upcoming rooms.  (I suggested a BDSM room, but that didn't go over too well.  Emoticon )This would be perfect for a girls night out, a double-date, friends and/or family in from out of town, even a KDC meet up. Go early and continue the party at dinner and/or drinks in the area.  Tons better than the same old same old dinner and a movie! 4951

@Donnatella: so you wouldn't recommend it for older kids? It's just a grown up place? That would be disappointing. DS has watched that reality show based on this concept and was talking to the contestants telling them what to do. And he loves MacGyver and all kinds of brain puzzles. So I thought it might be good for his 12th birthday. But maybe not so much?

Also, we have never watched Dexter. 4951

@Mahm:  Very sharp teens and up would be my guess, but then again, it all depends on the abilities of the older kid.  I'm not sure about the owner's rules and/or age limits.  There certainly wasn't anything inappropriate in the room, no more so than you would find in normal prime time TV.  There's no blood and gore at all, just reference to a murder and you solve the murder.  I couldn't speak for the other rooms because we were just in the one. I understand there is another room that is ready to go when they open, that is a completely different theme.  Just give them a call and see what their recommendation is for a 12 YO party group.  They would be the best judges.

Glad an entertainment business is coming to Kingwood. Whenever I think of these places I can't help but think of the episode on Big Bang Theory where they went to one. 4951

@podunk: Also, 2 BROKE GIRLS did an episode about one too.  They are very popular and only limited by one's imagination.  If a particular room or two gets old and stale, then just swap out the "stuff" and decor for a completely themes, then everyone can come back and do them all again.  It doesn't have to ever get old, if you keep up with it.

@Ebola: They highly recommend everyone do that before starting, just so you don't break character, so to speak, ruin the mood and interrupt train of thought.  It really is a group effort, so all hands on deck without interruption is the key to solving it within the 60 minute time frame.

@Mahm: It is a great family activity, I have had several families who successfully completed the Kill Room with the support of the children.  Emoticonlease keep in mind that an escape room is very difficult for a group of adults, so for some kids it may be too difficult running without the full support of parents. Also, some kids are more patient and attentive than others. It all depends on your kid. Also, there is no need to watch "Dexter" the tv show. No knowledge of the show is needed to complete the room. Just themed after it.I found a good article online that covers bringing children to an Escape Room.
