That poor pup was probably cold last night........He was most likely barking because he was cold, scared, hungry, thirsty and / or didn't want to be alone, outside, in the dark, in the cold as$ freezin' balls temps....I suggest just going over to their casa, and in a calm, mild manner, simply speaking with the Home Owners.....

Sorry you got a bad nights sleep.  You should report them next time.  The police will make them shut their dog up.  It is getting too cold for animals to be left out all night.  Poor dog has bad owners!Maybe they have very good windows and could not hear their dog.  If you know which neighbor it is, you might want to make them aware.  Stay calm and matter of fact.  Don't let them make you upset.   4951

@rissnbry: If it is disturbing and unreasonable loudness and duration HPD will respond. If they arrive at your address and they can hear it, let them track it down and confront them. Inside city limits, they can be ticketed. 4951

@rissnbry:  You make me realize how thankful I should be to have neighbors who keep their dogs in at night.  Even during the day, If one of my dogs is barking I make him come in the house.  If I can hear him when I am inside my house, then others can hear him.

You must live near me - I heard it too. If it's who I think it is I'm pretty sure they don't care. I gave up on trying to explain the importance of trying to figure out how their dog kept getting out. 4951

Just keep going over and knock or ring their door bell to let them know that they must have forgotten to let their dog back in and that it is barking. You could alternate turns with your neighbor on walking them up until the dog is let in. 4951

I'm glad they are not my neighbors - others have had good suggestions, but I like @donnatella's the best because someone besides you would need to be involved, with authority, to help shut it down and keep them honest.  It's also more anonymous - which is better for you. Now, they could be someone from the country where dogs NEVER are inside.  I'm not saying that's the case, but it is believable to me as I have relatives whose dogs have never stepped inside their house.  Of course, they are used to being outside and don't bark all night either.  4951

Go talk to them.
I live in Trailwood as well. Our neighbor had 2 dogs that barked incessantly anytime it was outside. I fumed for over a year.
I would restrict how much I let my dogs out so we could limit our dogs response barking.
Their dogs would keep barking even if our dogs were inside.
I finally went and spoke with the neighbor, it has improved dramatically.

Sometimes the owners are not able to hear what you do.
Prior to calling the Police, try being a nice neighbor. 4951

I am not sure who the owner is at this point and at 11pm at night I am not going to go knocking on anyones door. That is something better handled by the PD. 4951

People if you cant keep your dog indoors give it to someone who can the whole phrase (outdoor dog) is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.yes your dog barks because its cold, yes it barks because it's hot and yes your dog barks because it's lonely. 4951

@lisapisabobisa: Then it's best to leave t in the hands of HPD. If they don't respect their neighbors, then maybe they will respect the tickets that are issued.

As soon as I hear my dog start barking I bring her in.  I tell her before she goes out the door no barking.  Sometimes she listens, sometimes she doesn't.It was 30 when I got up at 5 this morning.  That dog must have been freezing.  My baby sleeps in my bed and has a blanket. I could never leave her outside all the time.  Don't have a pet in city limits if that is what you are going to do.  I understand on farms and to keep the predators away from your live stock but when the houses are as close as they are here have some respect for your neighbors.I always feel bad when my neighbors are having a party and I have to let her out because I know she is going to bark at them.  I tell her no and she usually stops but sometimes I have to threaten to get dad and bring her in as soon as she does her business.  We didn't have neighbors on either side for awhile so she is still getting used to people being there.  It really stinks that I even have to use the dad card on the dog..lol 4951
