This is the reason I'm still amazed every time I see or visit a high school football stadium here in Texas. The photograph below was taken today by a friend of mine in IL. That's the very same field that was used while I attended school there...And the same field my dad/uncles played on. It's not completely without amenities though. There are bleachers on both sides and a snack-shack behind the photographer.  Emoticon  4951

A sad state of affairs when a sport, any sport, takes precedence over education and in the end the participants are no better at the endeavor and will still want jobs beyond their education. 4951

I hate the way they do football here, using Turner as a community stadium. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice stadium and all, but I like each school having their own field and actually having "home" games, like it was/is out in West Texas where I grew up. That's what Friday night lights was all about! 4951

Too many schools opening to build each its own personalized stadium. 4951

@TheChad, you have to send your friend some pictures of Turner Stadium.  It is unreal that kids play on something like that.  The middle schoolers, the first time, are in aweEmoticonLike you we played on small fields that had been around forever.Turner brings in a lot of money for our community.  And they host a lot of events.If you haven't been to see the new stadium at New Caney you have to!  Even in the unreal heat here in Sept, that stadium always has a breeze it seems.  It is just a well done stadium.   The kids at the school taking whatever classes in film, etc, record the games and work all the music and lights.  It is hands on and just great experience for them.

@podunk, yes, and while they aren't Turner, they are fine for a high school football game.I really don't get why they can't ever play on them.The local middle schools do have games on both KPark and KHS.  Not sure if it is a contract that Humble ISD has with Turner, but it has been this way for many many years.

@Fallon:

Guessing the district built the newer one as a "look at me" complex to compete with other districts when the $ became available. I never had to deal with that bc we were 3A with 1 HS. Our stadium was our stadium...the junior high kids had to play on the old practice fields, but that was actually owned by the city and the district finally quit using it. When we'd come down & bump up to the 4A Conroe schools we'd play at a astroturfed (hate, hate, hate, hate that stuff) complex. Or if some of the district games were well over max capacity the game would bump to Homer Bryce or Bowers. 4951
