We don't have a PCP and I'm in need of a tetanus shot.

1. Where to get one today? (Preferably paying cash for it as I signed up for my new company's health insurance this week but haven't received my cards yet.)
2. How soon after being injured should I got one? (I don't want to go further into here but yes it broke skin almost to the point of needing stitches.)

Thanks for any guidance! I think I may have to head to Urgent Care but am scared it will be s $200 bill. 4951

Walgreens....think its 35 but it will be the full DTAP

Very few if any will give a straight up tetenus. Take good care of yourself. Last one I got the P of the DTAP made me pretty yucky! 4951

Oh and if you really need one...do it asap. Tetenus can set in 5 to 7 days I believe.

That and rabies when exposed are about the only 2 vaccines you will see me support...lol

I dont really support the full DTAP for adults when just needing the T but like I said...good luck finding anyone on the spot that will give just the tetenus.... 4951

You can get a straight up tetnus @Burnsway, my dh had to get one a year ago, as a precaution for his travels overseas.  He is out in the countryside a lot, so his Dr gave him one. Just the tetnus.  Walgreens on Kingwood Dr and WLH has a clinic too.  Call in and they will give you a price before you go.

@Fallon:

Right...straight up ordered from your dr can be done and they will but she needed a walk in. Most walk in places dont carry it alone. Im sure much searching she may find it by itself but when I needed one I could not without a drs appointment scheduled in advance.

Just wanted to prewarn her because they dont always tell you upfront you are actually getting 3 vaccines which can be pretty hard on your system if you are not prepared for few days of rest and upping your suppliments, herbs and oils if you use them.

I never understood the logic of getting the vaccine AFTER the supposed infection?  And why is it that tetanus is the only one that you need to get repeat vaccines for, but none of the others?  That seems odd to me. 4951

Tetenus vaccine, like rabies, will work as long as you get them before first signs which are usually 4 to 7 days. Both of those are very deady diseases so its not smart to play a wait and see game. Once signs show the vaccine will not work and chances of survival are pretty much zilch. Technically all vaccine protection are no longer in the system after 10 years but its more fun to blame the parents that are antivaccine than the other 90 percent of society not vaccinated for any fabricated fake breakouts media hits us with....lol

I suggest you educate yourself... We are vaccinated as children but it only covers 6-10 years. It's such a threat that ALL people who have any laceration /wound received in the hospital is inoculated immediately. I am generally against flu shots , but adamantly recommend a tetanus if your open boo has been exposed to soil, gravel, or AnY filth..
plz educate yourself on these matters 4951

@Burnsway:

Last time I had a tetanus was ten years ago....I fired a rusty framing nail through my foot. Tacked it to 3/4" decking via a Senco nail gun that had a sticky trigger.

I've cut myself plenty on old metal, haven't sought a rehash and have been fine.

A full puncture however I thought the shot was best. I pulled the 4" framing nail out with a hammer and then went to my doctor and got innoculated.

@TXtransplant:

When I was ten I stapled my index finger to the bulletin board in school hanging our class project

Could you imagine that happening today?

School would have been a full blown kaniption fit!

At that time it was fixed with Bactine and a bandaide

This is a pretty good article on tetanus, tetanus vaccine, lock jaw, etc! thesurvivaldoctor.co m/2013/10/09/tetanus -shot/

If it is a puncture wound I would absolutely get a tetanus booster, for a cut I would consider the surroundings where I got the cut, dirty soil...yes, in my home...no.

If I'm not mistaken, you only need the booster every 5 years.

And alcohol and hydrogen peroxide do nothing to kill bacteria in a wound. Because it burns or bubbles doesn't mean it's sanitizing the wound. Hydrogen peroxide bubbles is working on dead tissue, which in a fresh wound there would be none.

To clean a wound just run it under cool running water and cover with a sterile bandage. If sterile is not available, make the layer closest to the wound as clean as you possibly can, then wrap with what you have to hold. Get a sterile dressing on as soon as possible! 4951
