He was complaining at the beach that he had these patches of mosquito bites and I didn't think anything of it and told him the salt water would do him well. Got home and he showed me, his mother and my DW and my DW said "I think you have chicken pox". So his mom took him to the doctor which caused quite a stir as the Dr. is pregnant so they had him seen by a male doctor and sure enough he does have the C.pox. The Dr. said less than 2% of vaccinated kids get it. His case is mild and he should be done in a day or so. Sorry for the typo in the title. Obviously I meant Vacination 4951

It happens all the time, but a milder case. Just make sure the pediatrician knows in the future so they don't try to revaccinate. Don't let him scratch the pox, they will scar. Oatmeal baths, Benadryl, and maybe look up natural remedies for the itching.. This to shall pass... And 4951

It's a bit higher than 2%.. Vit D, priobotics will strengthen the immune system and help the speed of recovery 4951

I thought chicken pox prevented MS. Shingles later in life though is a probability.  4951

Having chicken pox is not normally that bad.  Hope the little guy recovers quickly.  He needs lots of rest and anything else he wants.   For some reason, I could never get chicken pox and my kids never got it.  We tried!  The doctor said we had a natural immunity.   4951

I actually managed to get chicken pox twice. My first bout was very light - less than 10 marks. The second time lasted over 3 weeks! Wish there were a vaccination when I was young! 4951

When DD1 was in high school (back in the early 90's), she got Mumps. Even thou she had all the shots for it. Her doctor called in all other doctors to show them since they never see it any more.Had to stay out of school for 2 weeks, and siince I never had Mumps, she had to stay quarantined in her room.I did however buy her, her own VCR (at the time) so she had something to do. 4951

Yes so far it is a mild case with only a couple dozen spots, no fever and not really itching. They took him to their pediatric practice and somehow the message that he might have chicken pox didn't get relayed properly. When the girl at the window was told she said he would have to go wait in the car and not the waiting room since it is quite contagious. Then they had to switch doctors as the one he was scheduled to see is pregnant.  My DiL has never had chicken pox so the Dr said she should consult her primary care Dr. but perhaps she  just has built up an immunity. They also advised against the kids being around my 89 year old MiL for the next 2 weeks. The best part is that the Dr. suggested he stay in his bedroom for the next few days which he is happy about because he now has a good reason to  be in there playing on his Xbox 4951

Did he recently get the vaccine (do you think that is what caused it) or is it a "wild" strain? 4951

@allymansfield: No, he's going into 6th grade, the vaccine was as a baby or whenever they do it now. All the other kids have been vaccinated so I'd be surprised if other siblings get it. He was fine today, we all swam in the pool.
