Would you want to know if there had been a death, specifically a suicide, in a house you bought or were thinking about buying? 4951

I would not want to know but they have to disclose that, don't they? 4951

They do.  Looked at one over off KWD once that a couple was murdered in, they told us straight up.  Didn't bother me and liked the house but figured we would never be able to sell it. 4951

@Gramoda: Yes, I would want to know and yes, a suicide would keep me from buying a house.  I am not sure a suicide is something that has to be disclosed.  I would not like it if I found out from the neighbors.  I think something like that stays with a house forever.

Murder, yes, - suicide, nope. No disclosure required of deaths by natural causes, suicides or accidents unrelated to the condition of the property. 4951

I missed the suicide part, the one we looked at was definitely a double murder. 4951

My BIL found a great house for sale in Katy for a really good price. They put a contract on it and were so excited to get this house then found out it was the house where Belinda Temple was murdered in her closest. They backed out of that deal pretty quickly! 4951

It's kind of funny how the majority of people don't believe in ghosts but when it comes to buying a house were someone was murdered then all of a sudden they become believers.

I guess people just want to play it safe and not risk buying a haunted house.

I don't blame them though. Not sure if I would buy a murder scene either. 4951

It wouldn't bother me to buy a house where someone had been murdered or self-murdered, as I have yet to see a ghost/goblin/ghoul/spectre/you name it, but given that others freak out about that sort of thing I wouldn't do the deal given it would make it tough to re-sell.  4951

@Jeff1928: You never know, maybe the murderer might come back one day.  Better safe than sorry.

@buffaloglenn:
houses can even be haunted even if no one died in there too. Living in a haunted house isn't all it's cracked up to be. Ghost's are actually rather boring... 4951

Not worried about haunting but just having to think about it from time to time, not something I would want to have to examine in my mind.  4951

I wouldn't want to buy a house where someone was murdered but not because of ghosts etc.  I think it would be hard for me not to think about the horrific crime all the time.@ ET, I'm pretty sure we looked at that same house.  The murder happened in the master bedroom and that room has since been purposed.  The house was beautiful but I just couldn't live there. 4951
