I keep hearing stories about horrible TSA lines at other airports.  I don't get Pre-Check and last week it was a little slow at terminal C.  4951

I have been 4 times in the past two weeks from B and C, IAH is just the same as ever: no lines to speak of, no hassle. We haven't been mentioned nationally either - probably the biggest city with a hub with no mention. Oddly sometimes TSA line is no quicker than "normal" line. 4951

Funny you should bring this up but we flew out of IAH-C on Monday just like my DW has done every week on Monday since New Year's and it was NUTS! We are both precheck and the line had 350 or more people in it and it snaked all around the left side of the check in area that is still being remodeled. So you had to make your way between people in line to check bags and then go find the end of the line. Now the line was moving, you never stood still very long and kept moving forward but it took 25 minutes or so to get to the final TSA ID check. We breezed through PreCheck, thank goodness they started doing that and luckily there weren't too many clueless people or families with kids in the line to slow it up. I saw that the TSA fired the guy somewhat responsible for the long lines and lack of manpower. He and his superior were on the hot seat at some Congressional hearings trying to determine why he got $90,000 last year in bonuses! 4951

No problems for me flying a couple of weeks ago to Cancun.  Somehow the TSA gods gave me the 'TSA approved' or whatever fast pass.  Sister and I were through everything in less than 10 minutes.  We will see what tomorrow brings.  Husband and I also have the 'fast pass' through for tomorrow.  First class take me away. 4951

Thank Goodness I don't have to wait in line... Emoticon But the lines do get pretty long. I have noticed that when they are, sometimes it's because the passengers aren't organized and this causes some of the hold up. 4951

So what caused the huge TSA lines in Chicago? Did they change the process in which each person is checked? 4951

My understanding is that this caused a major embarrassment to the TSA and they are being a lot more methodical and thorough.  Passenger traffic is not significantly up in Chicago.  I think the TSA agents themselves have an us against them attitude and could not care less how long the line is or if you make your flight. 4951

@ForeCPA90:

Tax dollars at work. This should all be privatized and fire the schlubs they have "working" now. It's all a giant scam, they can't stop anything.
And not just Chicago, we flew into Newark and I have never seen more people in one line ever. Not even Disneyworld. 4951

@ET: In all my years of near weekly air travel, I never, not once thought that I am any safer because of the TSA process.
True story, I saw a guy that was HAMMERED, like me as a teenager hammered, at 6am in the morning.  Obviously had been up all night.  He stumbles up to the front of the line, puts a shoulder bag on the belt, then gets confused and just ducks under the barrier, completely by passing screening and NOT ONE of the TSA agents noticed.  We ended up calling him out in case they saw him on camera and made the entire terminal evacuate and re screen.  The total confusion and utter lack of any competence on how to deal with it was astounding. 4951

They should be privatized for sure @ET.The private companies should get their standard operating procedures from Israel.  Fast and effective.

@Fallon: On the plus side, they seemed to have reduced the welfare rolls.
