@Francita: Â That's a good reminder. Â My doc told me about the importance of staying hydrated when I was first diagnosed with high blood pressure. Â Since then, I keep a large Aladdin insulated mug (with lid) filled with ice water nearby. Â Even at work, when I was reducing the amount of coffee I drank, this gave me something good to sip on all day.ALSO, beware that caffeine is a diuretic. Â So, while coffee and soft drinks are mostly water, you don't get full benefit of it because you will pass (OK, pee) much of it.
@Retired_Engineer:
Exactly. The best thing to drink is water. Nothing sugary or caffeinated when your goal is to be hydrated. I do drink coffee every morning so it means I need to drink additional water. I calculated out the amount in bottled water terms.. It is 4-5 16oz bottles of water. I don't really drink sodas and my tea is decaf.
I thought with the weather getting warmer that this is a good reminder. My brother ended up at the emergency room a few years ago. Taken by ambulance thinking it was a stroke, it ended up being severe dehydration. 4951
