I do but not as much as for dine-in service.  Depending on the order, usually a couple of dollars. 4951

No. Who would you be tipping? The cashier person? Those people are hourly. 4951

I usually will tip on a to go order just to make the total amount a nice round number. Let's say the bill is $7.20 I'll tip 2.80 4951

I tip about 10%. The staff still had to take time to cook my order and bag it (served in a to go containers...so to speak). All tips are shared among the staff, not just the server. Since they don't have to clean up after me, 10% seems reasonable IMO. 4951

@BooBear:

Fast food people are hourly, servers and the staff is not. Maybe the cook is paid hourly, but to my understanding the bus people and servers only get a tiny amount of salary. Someone who has worked in the industry can clarify that.

I thought it was only the servers that were mainly paid in tips. 4951

I don't tip for carry out. Frankly, if I get home and have the correct order, it's a miracle. 4951

@jls2:
(1) you have to check your order before you leave with it
(2) you have to venture out beyond McD's and Carl's Jr.

Yes - now I have to open up everything in the bag to see if it is correct - whether it's fast food or Chuys, Pei Wei, etc. Last December, I stopped by Chuy's after work to get chicken enchiladas for my daughter. She was really excited - I got home - she opened up the container and it was cheese enchiladas. I called up and got the meal comped - how ridiculous, you order one thing and they don't get it right. 4951

@jls2: Well, I would have been okay with that...LOL. When I was pregnant, I craved jalapeños and also cheese enchiladas from Guadalajara (apparently at the time, they had the best).

I do get your point...just goofing around with you. 4951

Fast food.....no tips.We don't tip for take out.  Cooks prepare the food and package it, but they don't get a share of tips, so servers would get the tips even though they weren't involved.if we have food delivered, we tip the driver.For a sit-down meal with a server, we tip 20% as long as the service was good. 4951

One of the advantages of getting to-go as opposed to dine in, is that you don't have to tip. Tipping is for the wait staff personal service you get, and the bus boy who cleans.  The receipts are all printed with a tip space, but don't let that throw you off.  If I order Chinese food for the family and spend 60 bucks, I'm more inclined to get take out and save 15+ bucks than to take everyone out.  4951
