I have decided to go into accounting.  Currently in Lonestar getting my basics out of the way.  I am trying to decide exactly which way I want to go.  I know I don't want to do just taxes.  I am thinking maybe forensic accounting or audit.  Does anyone have any experience in either of these fields and would be interested in giving me information? 4951

I would also be interested in learning about other fields too.  Just trying to get an idea of what I might or might not like. 4951

Anything pertaining to the Petroleum field, revenue accounting, production, planning accounting will do too, stay away from tax and auditing unless you like long hours and no weekends off. Working in accounting no matter the field there will always be deadlines and month end, quarter and year closes which can be brutal sometimes. Overall it's the best area and degree to have, although it's boring and redundant.

Best of wishes and good luck in your studies. 4951

My father was an accountant for a major oil and gas company.  He made really good money but I think he would have been happier in a more creative field. 4951

Thank you for your insight.  That is exactly the kind of advise I was looking for.  I have done a lot of research for the careers, but it doesn't really tell me what it is like to work in those areas.  4951

@Okiedokie, I agree, I hate it but it supported me and my son very well after my divorce and still to this day. it pays the bills and then some. It's truly not a rewarding or spontaneous field. I don't work and haven't worked with anyone who says they love our job or can't wait to get to work to play with numbers, formulas and spreadsheets! But when pay day comes it makes it better....
I'd prefer working in a nursery, especially when the weather is nice, I love plants! 4951

@randisueI used to be an accountant. I LOVE numbers and math, and everything else that came with accounting. However, it became too monotonous, and Brat became bored. I love my jobs right now. Everyday brings me something different, which keeps me on my toes. Emoticon Enjoy your studies! 4951

I think that would happen with any career. Anything you do for a long time would get boring if there is not any change. That is good you found something that you like better! For young people today - they have to pick a major that will have job openings in the years to come. 4951
