So he's obviously going to make another presidential run in 2016.  EmoticonHe's sending up to 1,000 National Guard to the border KNOWING that they CANNOT use weapons, and they CANNOT arrest or detain anyone. So it's all just a publicity stunt.I don't like Perry as a governor, so I sure as hell won't vote for him for president.  If it comes down to Perry vs Hillary, I will have to vote for a 3rd party candidate. 4951

@Mccrj: Not in Texas.  As long as more people vote Rep than Dem, the Reps get EVERY Electoral College vote.  Essentially, your vote in presidential elections means NOTHING on the national level

I'd vote for Perry over Hillary. I'd vote for Satan himself over that incompetent witch. But I so no way for Perry to be a viable candidate in 2016.  He will never make it.   At least I keep telling myself thisEmoticon

@Fallon:   Yeah, I expect him to get eliminated early.

But sending in the National Guard is a good visual and show of force.  It shows that he is willing to do something and not just sit back and do nothing like everyone else has done. Something is better than nothing, in this case. 4951

Right but if more people vote like your going to do, republicans will lose texas and the electoral college will be forced to vote democrat, thats 38 electoral votes going to a democrat. Unfortunately Houston is a democrat city along with austin, san antonio and others. Romney won 57% and obama had 41% of the popular vote. With all the people from other states moving to Texas this margin is shrinking. 4951

@donnatella: But it is a POLITICAL move, not a realistic move.
Put them to work building a big fence, that would be something. 4951

I didn't realize until the other day that the national guard couldn't carry any weapons. I stand corrected. I thought he was really being proactive in protecting our borders. I'm new to tx politics/politicians. I'm learning. I know Perry isn't a strong speaker and stumbled last election. We have got to find a true Republican to run. Not a RINO like Christie. Our entire state of affairs is truly disheartening. Sad sad sad SMH 4951

@FoFa: EXACTLY! He's been governor for how many years now, how come his doing something is coming so late, why not have done something long time ago? This is not a NEW issue, we've been having border control problems now for over 15 years or so if not longer, so why now is he having this lets do something now attitude?! Too little too late! 4951

This is my personal Political Rundown, Hopes and Observations....** Hopes **....We can always hope for the "sweaty Teddy dream team...."...Congressman Ted Poe for President & Ted Cruz for VP...I'd also be quite happy to see Charles Krauthammer and Dr. Ben Carson throw their hats in the ring........We can all hope......And pray....** Observations **  ....NO NO NO...  ...Absolutely NOT........Awwws Hells Naw.......To Rick Perry running........John Boehner is a cry baby and has no business as Speak Of The House.........Chris Christy just needs to stay in Jersey...  He's proven that's exactly where he belongs........And Mitch McConnell looks like a turtle...** Rundown **...But this great nation of ours would be better off in any of the above mentioned dude's hands, then with the narcissistic Clintons, and definitely outta Obama's grasp...  4951

@Mccrj: As long as the Tea Party continues to dig their feet in like petulant children on every issue not allowing even debate for any moderate ideas, the Rep party will remain fractured and never carry the votes to beat the Dems.
I'd label myself a Libertarian if pushed.  Since I'm fiscally conservative and morally liberal I haven't had a dog in the presidential hunt in a long time other than crazy Uncle Ron who the media marginalized right out of the gate.Make no mistake.  Until we have realistic term limits, until we have substantive finance reform, until lobbying at any level is made illegal and prosecuted swiftly, and until being a politician means serving We The People instead of carving yourself out a nice soft career path...nothing will change regardless of candidate or party. You can hope and wish all you want.  At the end of the day, those with the purse strings are going to drag two puppets across the stage and tell you that you have a choice.  Unfortunately the only choice you're making is which side of the coin you dislike the least. 4951

NEWSFLASHDALLAS (The Borowitz Report)—In his boldest move yet to address the immigration crisis, on Thursday Texas Governor Rick Perry dispatched the Dallas Cowboys to the United States’ border with Mexico. In a photo opportunity with the Cowboys and several of the team’s cheerleaders, Perry explained the rationale behind his latest decision. “Those who would cross our borders illegally will have to contend with the power and fury of America’s Team,” he said.Critics of the move dismissed it as political theatre, noting that once the Cowboys arrived at the border it was unclear what they would do there.Additionally, there were questions about how effective the Cowboys would be in stopping illegal immigrants, since the team has the worst-ranked defense in the N.F.L. 4951
