Does anybody know of some good organizations that I can help out with occasionaly? I used to do a lot of community service, but have been slacking a lot here lately, and would like to get back to helping out. Most of the ones I volunteered with in the past are a good ways away, and I would prefer to do something more local if at all possible. 4951

What kind of volunteering are you looking for and specialize? I have volunteered my time with the Laura Recovery Center which they seek volunteers to do search and rescue and dissemination of information and awareness of missing and exploited children. The last time I have done a search was for the Spring, TX teen girl named Alexandria Lowitzer along with hundred of volunteers.http://www.lrcf.org/ 4951

Um I'm not really looking for anything specific. Just anything that I can help make a difference with. I find volunteering very rewarding. I've worked numerous children's festivals, the international Fest downtown, the special needs rodeo and Olympics, tutoring at the community center by my old high school, the Houston food bank, nursing homes, cleaned up parks and roadways, etc. 4951

Thank you Emoticon I will look into some of those. I've always wanted to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Do you need to be apart of a group, or could I volunteer by myself? 4951

I am not sure.  i would contact them to find out.  I was working at Lowes when we helped construct the homes, you learn alot!  i swear I will never have to hire a handy man or depend on anyone to do things after all i learned Emoticon  Plus working along side the future owner of the home is an added plus. 4951

@bp2018: I used to volunteer and MCAS by walking the dogs on Saturdays.  I loved it! I know nursing homes like Silverado and others always needs volunteers.I was a candy striper when I was younger-I enjoyed that as well.

I was a candy stripper also.  That felt totally rewarding when you got to make someone smile.

My DD volunteers at the Gulf Coast Boston Terrier rescue on the weekends in the Petco in Kingwood.  She just socializes the dogs, talks to potential adopters and goes outside with others when they walk the dogs.  She is too young to walk them herself. 4951

There are so many good places in the area to volunteer! You can also add the public library and Jesse Jones Park to the list.

Did you find something that interests you? 4951

@TXSunDvl:
I'm actually out right now, so I have a little bit more time, but I still hope to continue my volunteering once it starts back up again =) I really hate being bored, and I like to feel like I'm actually making a difference, even if it's only slightly. 4951
