On Northpark, if you are in the median(leaving McDonald's) waiting for a space so you can turn left into the flow of traffic, and someone across from you leaving wal mart's parking lot waiting for a space so she can go strait to the median you're in,do you have the right of way, or does the other driver? I just about got in a pile up cause of this issue. Thank God I have quick reactions. Btw, I was the car leaving the median. 4951

I don't think left turn ever has right away unless at a light or 4 way stop. 4951

I always have the right of way..lol.. just kidding.  I think it should be whoever got there first.  I had the intersection.  Whenever I leave Walmart now I always go around the back by the high school and come out on Woodland Hills.  I can't stand all the people leaving McDonald's that think if there is the littlest bit of space they have the right of way. 4951

If you are in a private drive (a parking lot) you must yield to the roadway. 4951

If you both get there at the same time, you never turn in front of the other driver unless he sees you and you see him and he says go ahead. And if the other driver is a teenager, just wait until they clear the intersection and are completely out of sight before you even move! Emoticon 4951

@rundmv: YES!!! That's my argument. A person leaving a parking lot/driveway doesn't affect the flow of traffic so why would they have the right of way? We need to find this out for sure cause it's been driving me crazy!

@BEgirl: That's what I think too, but I got the "hands in the air" from this lady who I turned in front of like I was wrong.  Half us  on here so far think one way, and half think the other.   Crazy.

@topcat: I never considered the private drive thing. It makes sense though but if I am turning left, even though I may have the right of way, I would yield if it looked like they were going to go.

Did you hit someone???

But who got there first? She may have been waiting there 10 minutes to turn before you even pulled into the median. If I were her I would have been upset too in that case, when she finally got a chance to pull out and someone who just pulled up goes first. Just trying to look at it fairly.Oh, and I'm REALLY glad we don't have to use Walmart Pharmacy any longer, so I don't have to go thru that traffic cr@p!

@SandyKnee: I see what you're saying. I honestly just want to know the TX law on the subject cause I'm a transplant from WA. If I am wrong, I want to know.

I believe they are correct about the private driveway.  The person in the median has the right of way.  The same thing happens now with the church intersection.  If you are trying to make a left onto North Park going towards 59 the people at the church constantly pull out in front of you.  Even on the other side when you are trying to cross over North Park.  They will make a right turn in front of your car even if you have been sitting waiting.  I HATE all drivers.  I guess that's from driving so long in NY.  If you didn't take your foot off the brake pedal when the light turned green there would be a horn blaring at you.  I have had to adjust my driving since living in TX. 4951
