HOUSTON - A 3-year-old was hospitalized after someone opened fire on a family's SUV in the City of South Houston.Police said around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, an SUV with a family inside were traveling southbound on Allen Genoa, when they came up to a car that was weaving back and forth and driving recklessly. The father, who was driving, decided to go around the car to avoid getting hit."The suspects vehicle was driving erratic, and they thought that they were just going to pass it up, on suspicious that they may have been a drunk driver," said City of South Houston Police Chief Herbert Gilbert.As the father passed the driver, someone in the car started shooting several rounds into the air. The family kept driving but when they got to the light at Avenue A, they stopped. The suspect's car caught up to them and someone fired six or seven rounds into the SUV. "The suspects vehicle pulled up right next to them, started firing shots into the rear window of the vehicle," Gilbert said. "On the passenger's side of the rear there was a 3-year-old in a car seat. Apparently one of the bullets grazed the right leg of that 3-year-old."The father sped through the red light and was able to get away from the shooter.He pulled into an apartment complex where his relatives live and called 911. The child was taken to Bayshore Hospital in stable condition.There is no description of the shooter's vehicle and it is unknown how many people were inside the car. 4951
