Saw a bunch of flying things yesterday in the sunlight, and had some wingless things come down the cooktop vent. 4951

do you mind if I ask what area you live in?

@eye careers:  It really doesn't matter what part of this area you live in.  When termites are swarming, they may land anyplace.  South Texas is worse than north Texas, but not by much.

We haven't found them in our house yet, but keep seeing them outside. I'm making my DH call the people topcat uses tomorrow. Hopefully they'll stay away from my house! 4951

Termites need a source of water to become established.  The most likely sources are roof or piping leaks (even very small ones).  However, if no water source is found in a home, they will either tunnel/burrow into the ground for water.  Places where plumbing penetrates your slab are prime locations but they can also create very small "mud" tunnels on the edges of your house into the ground. You cannot prevent a swarm from getting in your home, but you can prevent them from staying by preventing sources of water.  Professional termite pest control will use a long acting pesticide all along your slab, and wherever you have penetrations through your slab.  If the termites cannot access water, they either die off or swarm to a different site. 4951

i praise God all the time that the original owners got our home treated with the now illegal stuff.  Back in the 70's if your home was treated with this it guaranteed those bugs would never invade your home.  But the EPA banned it and now we get the cheap stuff that you have to have redone and redone...  money making scheme if you ask me!Good luck pray they didn't do too  much damage. 4951

We use those little pegs in the ground, back why we found a couple of tunnels on the outside. They swarm outside but I've never seen them inside. 4951

our exterminator told us its a reason why to keep the grass cut along your foundation and make sure your flower beds dont meet up to it either.  this is where they nest and create their tunnels into your home.  He found dead tunnels outside once but noticed the sticker under the sink from the extermination years ago.  I still walk once a year and hunt down any buggers though. 4951
