@ProblemAgain:  This case shows how you can abuse the financial system as long as you have a partner you trust and one of you is willing to spend some light time in jail.  I can't understand why the government let their scam(s) go on so long!  I'm sure if you or I tried to pull something like this, we'd be tossed in jail and all our assets would be confiscated.....oh, that's right, he said he didn't have any assets and they BELIEVED him! 4951

I recently read something where a financial auditor repeatedly warned the SEC about Bernie Madoff and his "investment" program YEARS before he was finally shut down.From my experience, almost all "auditors" or investigators that work for the government are doing so only so they can learn about regulations and how to work around them.  Then, they quit their government job and go to work in highly paid jobs for a company that they previously monitored.  The oil company I worked for hired several former EPA monitors so we could avoid fines and bad publicity.  The former EPA people also used their contacts from their previous job to "bend" a few regulations. 4951
