Just as most people are right or left hand dominant, most people are also left and right eye dominant. Usually the two coincide, but not always. I've known two left handed people that were right eye dominant so they adapted to shooting right handed. To check for eye dominance, look at and focus on some small specific point at least 10 feet away from you. With both eyes open and focused on your target, raise one upraised thumb and move it until it covers the specific point. Most people will notice that there are two images of their thumb but one will be more dominant than the other. Then close each eye one at a time. The one that has the thumb covering the point is your dominant eye.I'm right handed and right eye dominant.
@Retired_Engineer: I remember a firearm instructor giving my dad and I a test like that when I was 8. He had us make a triangle out of both of our hands, outstretched in front of us. Once you focus on the object, you close each eye. The one that's open when the object is centered in the triangle is your dominant eye.Â
I am also right eye dominant. 4951
