I have often wondered about the safety of the cross-country runners being allowed out by themselves. Maybe they should stick to the track.  They can get their miles in there.  I agree that 40 mph is too high, plus that's the green light to go 50 for many people.  There are too many bikers, runners and walkers crossing.  Also, it can be dangerous for drivers pulling out of or trying to enter their neighborhoods.  A woman was killed a few years ago when her car was hit as she was pulling out of her neighborhood, which was so needless and sad. 4951

I know that people think they are doing a good deed when they stop to let people, especially kids cross, please don't! I am a careful driver and I was very shook up when those kids darted out in front of me on Kingwood Dr, as I mentioned in my other post. If it had been someone else in that lane other than me, who was speeding or playing with their phone, those kids would have been killed.

@noel: I agree, sometimes someones an act of kindness gets people hurt or killed, especially when you stop traffic to let someone through well knowing there are more cars behind you.

I agree, isn't there some more else were they can run? Kingwood drive and west lake houston parkway have gotten so bad lately. It takes me 25 minutes to get from the feeder of 59 North to the red light at West Lake Houston Parkway sometimes.

@aandkmomma: Sure, there'd be plenty of places to run except the land keeps getting carved up with roads.  You don't train for XC on a track either, as mentioned above.  For goodness sakes, they were crossing a street in broad daylight; a mistake in judgment may or may not have taken place on the part of the young runner.  By and large they run the greenbelts, their home XC course, or doing workouts at one of the middle schools and you never even see them.  They're not out clogging up your roads.  You can't have it both ways with regards to driving a vehicle and having open roadways.  If everyone wants to drive alone then contending with congested roadways will accompany such practices, at least until the time that enough pressure is applied that additional lanes are plowed through - which I'm sure will happen eventually. 4951
