Afternoon party, weekend. Clientele - "get your hands dirty, bordering rough" guys and some spouses (or mistresses) thrown in there. Sails out of League City. (I don't even know where that is!)

It seems so wrong to wear jeans on a yacht, but I'm thinking this might be a situation where I would. 4951

I wouldn't wear jeans if it is a yacht.

Wear some nice khakis.  Or some navy dress pants.  Nothing high end, just some casual dress pants.  A nice sweater, or long sleeve shirt, and take a sweater.  Wear tennis shoes, or deck shoes.

@Fallon: Ok, all good thoughts. I think the guys will be in jeans definitely. I just don't want to come across snooty compared to these guys since I've never met them and, according to DH, most of them are pretty rough around the edges (hence why I said mistresses too!).

Deck shoes... what are those? I was thinking, if it's warmer, of wearing some nice sandals maybe? 4951

Deck shoes are:

I wouldn't wear heals or boots that would scuff the finish on the boat. It's considered disrespectful unless it's one of those very large commercial party yachts. If owned and maintained by an individual and its a personal water craft, then leave the dark-soles shoes and boots behind, out of respect.

Khakis, shoes like these and a cute sweater should be fine. Or, Google "casual yacht attire" to get other ideas. Unless you knew everyone would be wearing jeans, I would avoid them. 4951

Thanks ladies, for the feedback!

@sapphire - I have no idea the name of it.
@GoldenGirl - the invitation did not specify!
@donnatella - I'm thinking commerical one, now that you mention it - would make more sense. At the most, I would figure there would 60 people on board. And thank you for the tips on the boots/heels - I was thinking of my casual heeled boots as a possibility. I'll nix that one now!

Didn't have a big yacht, but Daddy had sailboats growing up and we spent a lot of time at Watergate yacht club. These were 40-55 footers, so nothing like a big party yacht.

It wasn't a snooty crowd, by any means, but there are unwritten rules that are born out of tradition and respect for boating, sort of like with golf and polo, and no jeans while playing.

When it comes to commercial party yachts, the rules are likely a bit different. There are personal yachts that size, so just be safe rather than not. 4951

@ctl74...Just a head's up, my friend, that if you're not a very good traveler, or tend to get car sick, prone to air travel illness, etc etc, you might want to score some Dramamine just to have on hand just in case of a seasickness emergency...  P.S.- I speak from experience here, dude... 4951

Always wear proper shoes on yachts.

@sapphire:

Or get a pedi and go barefoot!

White soled shoes are appropriate. 4951
