At least the money, or some of it, goes to a worthy effort.  4951

Thank You.I have opened my mouth and inserted my foot.The Charity: The net proceeds of this race will be donated to the Marathon Challenge running program. Marathon Challenge Program: Twenty two years ago we were repeatedly asked by PTA parents "How far was that marathon?". After deciding that it nearly impossible to teach adults what a marathon was, we would teach their children. We came up with a program in our local school called the Marathon Challenge Program. The program promotes fitness for elementary school students by providing t-shirts to the students who complete 26.2 miles or more of running/walking during the school year. The first year we had 14 students complete the distance. Each year we've added schools in the area to the program. In 2013 9,300 students completed the distance and received t-shirts. The program has provided thousands of t-shirts to children for 21 years. The progam is funded entirely by private donations. Every dollar donated goes directly to the students. More information can be found here: http://www.50statesmarathonclub.com/texas. 4951

"The net proceeds of this race will be donated to the Marathon Challenge running program. "Yes, it's a worthy cause.  But the obvious question is how are "net proceeds" calculated.  What % of the money goes to encouraging children to run marathons?  What % of the overhead goes where and/or to whom? 4951

>> New Year's morning there will be 700 marathon runners from all over the US using our trails.  They are charged $85 per person. Most of these participants are not residents or homeowners. They will begin in GreenTree park and run throughout most of Kingwood.This little park is designed for local residents only with about 6 parking spaces. The runners and their companions park throughout GreenTree up and down the streets until late in the Day on New Years. This makes it impossible for residents to get in and out of their own neighborhood. Residents also can't use their own park. Also, residents find it difficult to walk or run on their own trails New Year's Day.The way I read our Trail Association By Laws, all of this is prohibited use by outsiders. The By Laws say that the Parks and Trails are for use by homeowners, residents and their families.No one seems to be able to stop this misuse  of our trails. If you agree that having this event in our neighborhood is a bad idea, please contact your trail trail association and also your home owners association and let them know you do not want this event to happen in our neighborhood.

@trailrunner: Waaaaaaaa. Its been every year for the last 20 years or so. You TOTALLY lie when you say they"run throughout most of kingwood." Just a total lie. Its about 4 miles of the 90+ miles of greenbelts. (4 out and 4 back). Its one day a year. One day out of 365.

Waaaaaaaa.

@rundmv: Yep- totally agree!!! There are what 80 other miles to run on??? @trailrunner- pick another route to run that day. I live in Sand Creek and I love this marathon- I run but not that distance- I LOVE running up to the route and cheering them on.
The sponsors are great at the clean up and directing traffic- it's just one day out of the year- get over it.

To be honest, I've lived in Kingwood 10 years now (not far from the marathon route) and have never noticed it. 4951

All these comments are well and good, but it remains that use by others than the owners, residents and their families are against the bylaws. This is private property owned by the homeowners of Kingwood. 4951

@trailrunner: I'm kind of surprised that someone with the moniker "trailrunner" is complaining about people using what amounts to an extensive network of sidewalks.  These aren't really trails and most trail runners I have ever been associated with could care less about the use of cement pathways.  Lake Houston Wilderness Park would be a great outlet for you that day.

@trailrunner:
Well you better include the treasure hunt/ ego cache group doing their event that day too- there's a thread around here somewhere about it. As you can see you are way outnumbered. I plan on contacting the trail association and HOA in FAVOR of this and I hope my fellow runners and KDCers do the same 4951

@trailrunner: let me help you out a little bit. The greenbelts are NOT owned by the residents of kingwood. Nope. No how. Not even. They are owned by the KSA. Dont be that person who ruins it for everyone...unless that is your thing. 8,760 hours in a year and YOU wanna ruin it for 6 hours thst dont go your way? For .00068%? Really?

The greenbelt trails in Kingwood are not owned by KSA. The are either owned by a HOA or a trails association.I agree there is more good things that come from this event then bad.  It is one of the best managed events that take place on our greenbelts.  It is something Kingwood should be proud of not something to complain about. 4951

I used to work with Rick Worley. He left the company about 2-3 years before the accident. He had all kinds of marathon stuff plastered all over his office. He definitely lived for the run.
