The statement mentioned in a previous post that the "sins of the father (so to speak) are passed down to subsequent generations," is a complete an utter cop out......What a crock of ****..........It's called personal responsibility.... ...Are we not each, individually, responsible for our own actions?
@herron1345: Perhaps I need to make it clear what I mean by that. Had there never been slavery; Had the systematic rape of primarily black females never happened; Had the white wife not have to listen to the cries of said females while her husband was doing what he pleased, knowing she had no power to stop it never happened; Had subsequent lynching never happened; Had the assassination of Abraham Lincoln never happened; Had there been no such thing as Jim Crow laws, pole taxes, literacy test before voting never happened;Had housing discrimination never happened; Had there not been the murders of Emmitt Till, Rev James Reeb, Viola Liuzzo, Goodman, Cheney, and Schwerner and many others never happened; Had Brown vs. the Board of Education not been necessary; Had the assassinations of Medgar Evers, John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King never happened, all whom were involved in the civil rights movement, then perhaps the fact that a black teenager was killed by a white man, especially one in position of authority would not be news.It may take a few more generations before the mistrust some people of color have toward authority figures whom happen to have white skin will finally be a thing of the past. As a consequence the protest and subsequent violence that we see today will no longer be a common occurrence, and those who loot will face the wrath of said communities with or without police involvement. I absolutely agree that people should take personal responsibility for their lives. People should also not use past atrocities as an excuse. However, the past always has an effect on the present, and the present will have an effect on the future.
