@squirtismyboy: no, it's a jab at the person I quoted, if you read this thread www.kingwood.com/mes sage_board/view_mess age.php?message_boar d_parent_id=114Emoticonage= you'll see that the person quoted works for a certain dealership that the OP of said thread has been screwed twice buying vehicles, and cleve68 works there and hasn't responded to that thread.

I suggest a trip to the library and asking the reference librarian for the pick-up truck comparison edition of Consumer Reports. 4951

Thanks for the advice. One more question.....what is considered "too high" for mileage on used models? 100k? 200k? What is the general life span on pickups (if maintained properly) these days? 4951

For me, it's the Tacoma.  Emoticonrimarily because I am on my third one.  I had the first one for 11 years and I only traded it in on another because I wanted a newer model (yeah, young and dumb).  I had the second for 12 years.I was going to pass it on to my son in high school,  but realized that it would be about 20 years old by the time he finished college. So I traded it in for a car and paid it off before I gave it to my son. Then I bought a Toyota Matrix and did the same for my daughter.  I bought my current Tacoma in 2007 and it still looks/runs like brand new.  It is bigger than the previous Tacomas, but not quite full-size.  My only regret is that I got the model with 2 door plus half doors instead of the full 4 door model. 4951

@Swamp Rat:  it really depends on how well it was maintained and what kind of service it was in.  A well-maintained engine could run for over 300,000 miles, but parts and peripheral parts will wear out.

I had a Dodge diesel for a tow truck. ...I recommend Ford.   My friend recently got the 2014 Chevy and has already traded it in.  So I'd recommend Ford or Toyota. 4951

@Swamp Rat:

My dad has 2 trucks with "high mileage" a Nissan with over 450k miles and a f150 with over 350k miles, the ford with original engine and transmission and the Nissan needed a trans at 400k original engine. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I had a Nissan for 14 years, no problems, my Toyota went 12 years and 128K miles before I had the first problem (water pump). My ridgeline was only 6 years old, narry a problem, but I switched to the civic because I had to drive clear across town and needed something with better gas milage, or I would still have it. Loved that ridgeline, If I had to buy another truck today, it would be a ridgeline. Just so many little things about it that made it great.
Fold up rear seats that opened the entire back (for the dogs). Locking trunk, worked off the door locks. Tailgate that opened like a regular truck, OR swung sideways to make loading easier (and access to the trunk easier).Plastic lined bed standard, no scratched paint or addition coating.Tighter turning radius for a standard size truck (but wider than a small truck).Pretty much drove like a car.quite and comfortable.But like I said, the Nissan and Toyota I had were both winners and really good trucks. 4951
