nowadays it seems everyone has tats...the stigma is all gone and now its actually starting to get a little too trendy to me. I have one and planned on getting more around it and doing like a nice collage but now its like, eh...got too much other stuff to do.

I've noticed the last few years the sailor jerry style tats seem to be taking the place of the tribal armbands of ten years ago. Thats a shame because I like the sailor jerry style. 4951

Neither of us have any tats.  Interesting as I have been arounds tats a long long time and they never really interested me one way or the other.  From being in bands to doing custom truck events I never really thought, I need a tat.  I understand folks saying its self expression but I guess I never really had any problems finding an outlet for self expression.  Certainly have no problems with tat folks and never thought of tats as something sexy or alluring.  Anyhoo, sold tons of these tees doing the custom truck events..... 4951

Thankfully I haven't noticed that change. I still see the same ol bad tribal, barbed wire, tramp stamps, butterflies, stars, and cherries out there. I did see a lot of those cheesy sailor jerry style shirts being worn a lot at one point, but I haven't really seen any nice traditional tattoos on bro dudes and tools. 4951

@xjamiex: Unfortunately, I see em everyday at the gym!  It's sad when all the douchers ruin a good thing. 4951

To each their own.  If my husband is wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt, you would never know that he has 30 something tattoos.  He is an educated, well brought up guy, who has a great job in the white collar professional world.  He loves his tattoos; they each symbolize something important about his life,  including our 2 children, me, his deceased dog, etc.
I  have 3 tattoos, but plan on getting more to symbolize my 2 kids; I plan on getting a Sailor Jerry style sparrow carrying a banner with their name of B-day on each shoulder blade.  Unless I am wearing a swim-suit, my tattoos are not visible.  However, when I get the sparrows, they will be visible with a tank top, but they will be tasteful and I will be happy to show them off. By the way, I am an educated, well brought up person who works for the Fed. Gov't, and never got in any trouble growing up, etc.
Tattoos can be done tastefully, or they can be tacky.  It all depends on the person, what they have tattooed on them, and how they carry it.  They just don't work for some people.
I got my first tattoo when I was 25, and I went with my Mom, (a long-time school teacher at the time) who also got her first one done at that time.  My Dad came along, didn't get any new ones, but he had his old ones from his time in the Marines.
Tattoos are not just for military guys, punks or troubled youth anymore. More and more grandmas and other unexpected people are getting them these days. 4951

Okay, this chick does not need the tats to look trashy. Her clothing (or lack of) choices do it all for her. 4951

Sailor Jerry?  I thought it was Popeye!

I read that tattoo removal business have seen an increase as the economy gets worse. Even Groupon had a deal not too long ago.  Like premarital sex or marijuana smoking or living together, people are always gonna judge - that 'trashy' stigma is never going away.

If all tattoos tell you is that someone has issues, you should take a closer look. My breast cancer ribbon I got for my mother the first time she beat breast cancer isn't because of "issues". They signify memories and milestones. EVERYONE has issues, not just people with tattoos. And I'm sure there are some people who get tattoos when they're drunk or to help them cope with an issue, but to say that everyone with tattoos did the same thing is pretty ignorant in my opinion. And saying that girls with tattoos are sluts is just moronic. Tattoos aren't for everyone but the stereotypes about people who have them are just silly. 4951

@lola: I dont see anything trashy about tats, premarital sex, or weed smoking! But everyone has their own opinions i guess. 4951
