We just moved to South Woodland Hills and were not aware that we did not have bus service to Kingwood Park High School.  I am looking for a ride for my junior and sophomore until the end of December.  Someone close to Cave Springs Dr. would be ideal.  Any help in this matter would be appreciated and I will compensate for gas money. 4951

@Timmerman - check with your neighbors - there might be some teenagers driving to school and maybe you can set up a ride with them. 4951

That's a pretty lengthy walk to the school, probably around 45 minutes.. But you could look into where the nearest bus stop is and see if it's within walking distance. If not, you can try to find someone to take them the first day, then ask seniors at the school if they can give them a ride. 4951

45 minutes?!?!

@taramay: Yep.. It's around a 10 minute ride, so unless those kids are really fast walkers, it'll be well over half an hour.

It's just under 2 miles. You'd have to be moving pretty slow for it to take that long.

But it would only be about 10 minutes on a bike.

Regardless....I'm sure one of the kids has a friend that drives and would be willing to pick them up. 4951

School districts are not required to supply bus routes if you live within 2 miles of the school. I know humble isd follows this policy for elementary and middle, I guess the high schools also follow the same policy... 4951

We live about 6 miles from the school and my son rode his bike everyday just because he wanted the cardio workout. It helped with swimming. 4951

@Mccrj: its always been in effect but used to be only 1 mile radius instead of the 2 it is now.  My sons always walked to the 9th grade campus (k park now) and it was right over 1 mile, took them walking just under 30 minutes thru the green belts and neighborhoods.

Does he have a bike?  A 2 mile ride is nothing on a bike.  4951

Ok,, I get where the busses cannot stop if you are closer than 2 miles to the school. HOWEVER,, I have friend who's kid was 2 houses over from the bus route distance,,,, she was 2 HOUSES inside the 2 miles. The school refused to let her son go 3 houses to his friends house in the morning, and then ride the bus to school.  why can your kid just walk to the nearest stop, even if its a bout 1/4 mile away, and catch the bus? Its not wasting any gas or time on the school. 4951
