I just polished off 4 ( one would have been enough ) of these homemade buttermilk biscuits.I did not have a can of the store bought ones left. Did not feel like going over to HEB so I decided to just make up a batch. I have bought my LAST can of store bought biscuits. These are worth the few minutes it takes to make them. OMG they turned out soooooooo good...

1 envelope (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
½ cup lukewarm (100° to 110°F) water
5 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
2 tablespoons sugar (brown)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
¾ cup vegetable shortening, chilled (Crisco) I had lard so I used that2 tablespoons butter
2 cups buttermilk

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet with butter, oil, or cooking spray.

Sprinkle the yeast over the lukewarm water in a small bowl. In a
large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda,
and salt. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender, your hands, or
two knives until the mixture resembles a coarse meal. Add the yeast
mixture and buttermilk and mix well.

Sprinkle a small handful of flour over a work surface. Turn the dough
onto the floured surface and roll out to a 1-inch thickness.

Using a 2 1/2 –inch round biscuit cutter, cut the dough into
biscuits. Gently reroll the scraps and cut out more biscuits. Place the
biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake until light golden brown
and firm to the touch, about 12 minutes. Serve warm or at room
temperature.I served mine hot cuz I could not wait. Damn these turned out well. 4951

@Ray:
You immediately had my attention with the "O" reference then quickly lost it with the baking from scratch reality. Funny how that works sometimes...you complete and total TEASE!

Lure me in like that, then tell me I have to cook to achieve it. Shame on you!!

We should have a breakfast meet up. I'll buy the coffee and OJ and y'all bring in these, plus the meat market sausage that @mm4731 mentioned.

I'm just no good with recipes longer than a couple of steps but it all sounds yummy, not that I'm hungry. 4951

@donnatella: A good "O" always takes some manual labor.
