The city has approved construction of a sidewalk that will run from Sorters Rd. across 59 to Green Oaks dr. (the street behind Spec's Liquor). Construction is set to begin October 6th and be finished by mid December. The sidewalk will run from Sorters to 59 along the south side of Kingwood Dr. and from 59 to Green Oaks dr. along the north side of Kingwood Dr. Intermittent lane closures are to be expected during the construction project. Source:http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/kingwood/news/kingwood-drive-safe-sidewalk-construction-to-begin/article_1890785c-ca16-580a-a58b-8838534836a4.htmlAs an avid cyclist I'm excited to see this project. I know it will also give students at Lone Star College a safe alternative to walk or ride a bike to school. 4951

That would be GREAT!  I have often thought of riding my bike to work, but didn't want to deal with the traffic at Kingwood Dr and 59 in the dark on a bicycle. 4951

@Drekonix: So at 59 you have to navigate both feeder roads AND change sides of the street...that's 3 crossings of major streets, two of which have a 55mph speed limit.  I know there are lights there but this sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.I hate to see them use up more green space but I'd like to see them put in a sky bridge to one side or the other of the overpass.

Thank goodness.  What Kingwood needs is more concrete.  After all, that's why people came to live in the Concrete Forest. 4951

@shodan66: I don't really know, I was wondering this myself. I know they will probably talk about it at the next mobility planning meeting on October 14th at 5:30 P.M. Kingwood Community Center.
