I need to furnish our living room and was shocked at the prices I see at both Gallery and Star furniture stores. I may end up having no choice but to buy new, but I'd like to find a store that sells furniture from model homes and higher end stuff. The first thing I need to buy is a sectional sofa or, perhaps, 2 sofas. I've checked out some of the nicer looking ones on Bookoo but when I saw them in person, they looked pretty worn. Photos can be deceiving.  :o)Any suggestions for the type of store I'm looking for? Thanks! 4951

Thanks. Ever since a designer friend told me that nothing is marked up higher than furniture, it has just killed me to pay full, retail price. 4951

lower your expectations.

Why not change your wish list to good quality everyday furniture, since upscale is out of reach right now.

I would rather have a great looking room that is non-designer, than have a room full of used or seconds with a designer label.  Why does it have to be upscale if your budget cannot accommodate it? That's sort of like buying an old piece of crap Lexus just to be driving a Lexus. The label really doesn't mean much if it's not in great condition, and you're sort of pretending. You can drive a new, fully-loaded, top of the line Ford, Chevy, etc. for what a used old sad tired Lexus would cost. 4951

@donnatella:  I completely agree.  Live within your means and you'll be much happier!

I usually go to BI-rite they sell name brand and cheap stuff. Gallery furniture switched to solid wood everything years ago. You get what you pay for. 4951

Bought my dining room set from Gallery... got a great deal on it.  Checked at Fingers first, less pieces, no cushioned seats, much smaller hutch & they wanted 2 grand more. 4951

Don't lower your expectations or settle for crap! In the great USA you should be able to get what you want. Everything is negotiable. 4951

Don't lower your expectations or settle for crap!Nobody told her to settle for crap.  But her expectations and her budget seem out of alignment. In the great USA you should be able to get what you want. Our Declaration of Independence states that we all should be able to have "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" but happiness is not guaranteed.  You have to work for it.Everything is negotiable.

Not everything.

@Humbletexan1: you can get what you want if you can afford it. no one is going to sell you what you want at a loss just because you want it and can't afford it

I haven't read the responses after donnatella. I say go to thrift stores. If you can find a sofa that has good built bones that was made in early 90,,s or earlier recover it. They don't make things like they did in the 80~90's but ya finds a good couch from 1969 and earlier....they'll last the test of time. Jmvho 4951
