That was the topic in church today. Some things I just don't think I will ever change my mind on, no matter how many times I hear it in church. Manly the topics of masterbation and homosexuality. I don't think either is a sin.

I did like that the preacher discussed that our body is a temple and belongs to God. I need to remember this the next time I want to devour a pint of ice cream or pick up something greasy and fried at a fast food place.

@N+T: just a question out of curiosity. Did they say anything about masturbation (or lack thereof) having anything to do with immortality, because if it does, me and every male who has lived passed puberty are doomed!

The Bible and the Word of God is not an a la carte serving line where we pick and choose what sin to denounce and what we want to believe and follow. Sin is sin and it cannot be edited out because we don't like it or agree with it. We all fall short and sin all day, everyday whether we want to recognize our action as sin or not.

Some of my biggest issues are my filter, my mouth/language, attitude and snap judgment of people an situations. I would be happier if whose were not wrong but I still recognize the sins and try to do better each day, but often fall short. 4951

I believe the bible is flawed. Men decided what books would be placed in it. and men interpreted what God said. JMO, no offense to anyone who believes otherwise. It's how I was raised to question everything, even the bible.

I was born and raised Southern Baptist, so I view the Bible as without flaws and the ultimate authority and Word of God. Again, I fall short and appear more backslid at times, but that does not change the fact that I believe it 100%.

If people live in contrast to the Bible, and we all do because no one lives without sin, we recognize the sin, hate the sin but love the sinners.

@notfromhere:
I don't think the word masterbation is used in the bible but it is part of sexual immorality. Basically anything that isn't sex between a married man and his married women is considered sexual immorality.

Twelve years of Catholic School here. I do not attend any type of service on a regular basis. I believe I put my time in, it was mandatory to attend church with our class every Sunday. I was taught God was a loving & forgiving being.  I don't feel judged by him & I'm not afraid of him. I giggle when I hear the term "God fearing". What do we have to fear? He gladly accepts any of his children with open arms.  My beliefs are right for me, so that's how I live my life.  Yeah I might have told a few lies, used bad language, judged others but aren't  they human flaws that just about everyone will act on at some time in their life, so how will God reject us all. 4951

@donnatella:  I disagree with your first two sentences.  The bible (Old Testament) identifies a bunch of sins for which you should be put to death, yet I would guess that everyone of us have committed one or more of those sins.  I have an issue with people that claim to strictly adhere to the bible. The Old Testament is about a vengeful,  angry god that demands your loyalty.  The New Testament is about a more loving and forgiving god. The truth is that we DO pick and choose which sins we choose to enforce.

@donnatella: So, wearing mixed fabrics is a sin?Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. (NIV, Deuteronomy 22:11)Should wives be suborninate to their husbands?Brothers and sisters:Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ.Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord.For the husband is head of his wifejust as Christ is head of the Church,he himself the savior of the Body.As the Church is subordinate to Christ,so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything.Ephesians 5:21-24The bible is a good historical account of the lives of the jews before Christ (Old Testament), the life of Christ and his struggle in this world and his teachings (New Testament). I strongly believe in salvation in Christ, but the bible was written by man. The bible itself teaches that man is imperfect. My take on it: I believe most of what is written as a historical account (including the miracles Jesus performed), but tend to be eskeptical of  the opinions of the writers, like the examples above. But that is just my take. I am sure it is probably wrong.

@pksbar:  Unfortunately,  that is one of the problems.  Most people focus on the New Testament and say they are strictly adhering to the bible.  However, they have already made a CHOICE if they don't abide by the Old Testament as well.I personally feel the Old Testament is so out of date, it SHOULD only be used as a historical reference.
