As somebody go is working on starting my own business, I really try to support the little guys and shop locally as much as I can. They may be a little bit more expensive, but the quality also tends to be much better than the bigger chain stores. 4951

@KTownTexican: But do you shop in the chain stores or locally owned stores?

@Stealth83: chain,,, I guess.. don't really know any locally owned stores, which have items I want or need. I go for the best price.

It depends on what I am buying.  If it is something that I would normally have to get only at Target, etc., then I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Amazon as a first choice.

For groceries, I choose HEB (1) because it is closer and (2) it is a Texas company.

I try to buy speciality items, etc. from the local guys, like my guys in Central Texas for the jellies, jams, etc. that I posted about previously.

For olive oils, etc., I purchase from Texas Olive Company.

For fashion jewelry, scents, home decor and things, I try to support local people in business for themselves, or cute little local shops, etc.

For salon services, I prefer independently owned salons instead of the national chains.

The same goes for restaurants...I prefer our locally-owned options rather than the cookie-cutter chains.  4951

@WskyTngoFxtrt:
I'm trying to open up my own bakery and brunch type place. Kinda like an IHOP but way better food, all made from scratch with all natural and organic ingredients. It will have the traditional type foods as well as healthy alternatives and even a RAW menu for people trying that diet out.

I'd also like to open up my own bar, but that's going to be later on down the road. My mom owned two and really enjoyed it, so I'll just follow in her footsteps. 4951

I think this area could use a good bakery. The grocery store bakeries aren't that good. I like Randall's the best for their breads. I would go to a bakery if it was in Kingwood. 4951
