Going in for a simple oil change isn't that simple anymore. They bug people to death over windshield wipers, transmission flushes, cabin filters, etc., etc. The salesperson just wouldn't let up! Even offered to lower the prices on some of these things! I know they've always offered these things, but don't remember them being so insistent before. Sheesh. Makes me not want to go back. 4951

@Zokomo:

They all do that. The oil changes aren't much profit, it's the other sales that make them their money. Plus the sales guy is probably on commission. Ever wonder why nobody is ever at jiffy lube? Notice the line at flagship Carwash lube center or kwik kar? Empty shops should be avoided 4951

I go to Kwik Kar, for my oil changes. However, recently at Randalls. I got a $19.00 oil change coupon for NTB,, that was great. Tax and a fee $23.00. Normally my truck is about $39.00 4951

I was having a lunch with a buddy of mine a few yrs back when his wife called, she was at Cals getting her oil changed and they were showing her the cars "dirty" transm fluid, vs what it should look like. The problem was, he just had a new transm installed w/ all new fluid ect., he left to go have some fun with them, after asking them several times if they were sure that came out of his car, and then telling them the deal, they admitted they made a mistake and that was from a different car (yea, right), they gave him a free oil change but sure showed their "honesty".Prior to that, I had my car in there (Cals), had the radiator flushed, they had my top hose under my radiator mount (where you could tell it went on top and had a "route" for it"), the same day my plastic on the radiator  where the hose went in (where they were forcing it under trying to route it) cracked, plus the fan hit the hose and ruined it, I had "hell" trying to get them fix it and it was obvious what happened, we split the cost.A cpl yrs ago I was getting a wash at Pirates Cove, got home and noticed my GPS ant. wasn't on, stopped by on the way to work the next morning, the owner was a "butt" about it, accusing me several times of trying to get him to pay for something I knew wasn't on, I finally got him to order a new one for me after a lot of arguing, when I went to pick it up, as I pulled up, the mgr came running over telling me he'd been waiting on me to come back as he had my antenna, wth? The owner didn't even ask anyone, I went back in to tell him that if he had asked it would of saved a lot of arguing and insulting, he was still a "butt", asking me what I expected him to do with the one he just purchased, was a bad deal, haven't been back since. 4951

Never heard of cals, where is that?
Time before I went to muggy lube on wlhp and they said my air filter needed changing. Since it was about 21k miles I figured ok. $64. Really. But then they said they didn't have mine (thank you si, not std civic). Went to the auto parts just down from them. They had to order it (thank you non standard si) but it was only $18

@FoFa: Cals was (it's called something else now) in Atasc., kinda across from Spring Creek Barbq, used them a lot when I lived in Atasc., I will say this about them, they would sell their air filters, ect., at an "acceptable" price, $4 or $5 over what you can buy them for, unlike a lot of these other places.I forget what place it was, but is was here in KW, charged my sis $25 for a fuse for her brake lights when getting an inspection.I love watching the Datelines/20/20's when they jack with these repair places, and have them on camera screwing customers around, they are funny, but on the other hand, it's ridiculous some of the stuff they do.

@cador: I think you're referring to Cale's. They used to be a great car wash years ago, but went under new ownership/management and it totally changed. Crappy washes and horrible customer service.
BTW - I had great service at the auto parts store on WLH, not too far from HEB (can't remember the franchise name). You buy the windshied wipers and they'll install for free. They offer great customer service! I also recommend Kingwood Svc Center for major stuff you can't do yourself. Honest, dependable folks.

Don't go to the KwikKar on North Park. They messed up my car and it had to be sent somewhere else to have it fixed. I was without it for days. They were a huge PITA to deal with and it cost me hours and hours of productivity.  4951

@cador:

Which owner are you talking about? Pirates cove is on it's third owner in 10 years now. The current owner (Jack) is a great guy who wouldn't hesitate to get you a new antenna.

@FoFa: It was this year. They pulled out a bolt that was not a drain plug. They returned my car in worse condition than I brought it in.

I don't go to any of the oil change places.  They all try to do extra work, plus they generally don't seem to be very competent.  I too use Kingwood Service Center for my routine and general maintenance needs.  In 20 years, the have never tries to do unneeded work. 4951

I take the truck over to flagship on 494.

With a randalls coupon, its 30 bucks for an oil change and wash/vacuum. Just tell them that you dont need any extra services, and you will change your own air filter, then you can pay and then walk over to Nicos.

Two beers later, you have a well maintained clean truck waiting on you. Just watch out crossing 494. 4951
