Officers responded to the restaurant in the 2100 block of Northpark Dr. at approximately 5:50 p.m. after a McDonald’s employee called in a report.
“She was apparently trying to pay at the McDonald’s checkout line and while counting the money, she continued to fall asleep,” said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Jodi Silva. “She had a child in the back seat. We had the Houston Fire Department come out and check out the child, and then she was turned over to CPS.”
Silva said 35-year-old Shauna Michelle Richardson was taken into custody and charged with DWI- 3rd offense, a felony. The 4-year-old child was unharmed.
“There were no injuries, which is really good because as she was passing out she still had the car in drive,” Silva said. “It wasn’t even in park.”
Richardson reportedly admitted to having taken prescription medication earlier in the day.
“She said she felt it was o.k. because they were prescribed,” Silva said.
In 2006, Richardson pleaded guilty to two cases of DWI in Montgomery and Bellville counties. Her current bond is set at $5,000.
