I recently discovered an article from the Chron which discusses a rhesus macaque monkey adopted at only two weeks old by a Kingwood Resident. This monkey has it's own Facebook fan page which can be found here:https://www.facebook.com/BubblesPorter2014The Chron article leans towards the side of wildlife preservationist who say that keeping the monkey in an unnatural environment is damaging to it's mental health and socialization. The owner argues otherwise, saying bubbles is treated as a member of the family. You can find the Chron article here:http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/kingwood/news/article/Kingwood-monkey-Bubbles-an-online-hit-5698404.phpWhat do you think of keeping a pet monkey? Harmless or Harmful for the animal? Would you own this exotic pet? 4951

So cute. I'm with you about not wanting a lifetime of monkey diapers, but it is pretty darn cute.

It would be like having a baby for years and years.

I don't know how I feel about monkeys raised as a pet in a home. Seems like if the monkey is being treated well and not being abused by rough/careless kids, then it wouldn't be harmful to the monkey. But I'm not a monkeyologist, so who knows? 4951

Awe, I think it's precious. They are smart little critters, perhaps it could be potty trained!  I'd babysit!  4951

Hey, I'm potty-trained, and I usually hit the toilet!Although I have been known to fling my poop at certain people.  4951

OMG- a friend of mine who lives out of state knows this person who owns this monkey and reposts the videos. These people treat this monkey like a baby- kiss all over it ect. All I can do is think- Yeah wait till that thing takes a chunk out of your face. It's still a wild animal-period-end of thought. My Mom had a friend who had a little monkey- raised it from birth- treated like a baby- ect. And one day, it turned on my Mom's friend - and the police had to come out and shoot it. Regardless how you raise a wild animal- at some point it's going to revert back to it's natural instincts. 4951

Just from browsing the Facebook pictures, the monkey is in contact with quite a few very young children. I don't know anything about the owners, the monkey, or the children so I can't really judge. I know for myslef...that I don't know enough about any of it to allow my child to be in such close contact with any monkey. I can just hope that the owners are very responsible people that take the precautions necessary for all involved. While I'm sure it's microchiped, I would worry about it getting away and not being able to find it from either it being too curious about the woods, or from some idiot finding it and keeping it.

That being said...if I saw it out in public, I would for sure want to hold it, much to the disapproval of my husband! He gets mad when I pet random cats. Haha! 4951

Monkeys belong out in the wild, not in someones home wearing diapers and eating marshmallows. Taken from it's mother when it was only two weeks old? That's horrible. If she needed to fill a void, she should have adopted a puppy or a kitten. No sympathy if the monkey grows up and bites this woman's fingers off! 4951

@noel:

Or face off like what happened to that one lady. Except I think that was a chimpanzee...but still. Certain animals belong in the wild. 4951
