I definitely take that into consideration but when you are a habitual bad tipper it is no excuse.  A tip should be factored into the meal, and if you can not afford to include a just tip then the restaurant is out of your budget.  There are plenty of other places to take your family to eat that is within your budget.  It's horrible that someone tips 10% or less and then climbs into an escalade and drives off.And just because I usually make good money doesn't give ANYONE the right to not tip appropriately 4951

>> @xexidious: The more you post about this, the more I wish I knew which restauarant you work for so I could gather up a bunch of my friends and their toddlers and ask to sit in your station. Emoticon
@brightlights: Pick me up... I have a few rugrats I can gather up. They would love to have fun in her section Emoticon

@DCowboys: And you would receive great service even with your probably misbehaved kids, but would you tip accordingly for the great service you received???   That is the question....I have a toddler myself and plenty of friends with toddlers that would love to do the same ignorant thing your stating...the difference is that we all now how to tip for good service...

What excuse do you have then for great service and still giving a bad tip?

@xexidious: Well for one, it is your job to give great service. Should have nothing to do with a tip.The establishment should require you do your job.
Seems like the whole SERVICE part of it is being ignored. When I was younger (back in the 70-80 range) a tip was 10%, then it grew to 15%, now they want 20%.But a tip is an OPTIONAL amount the customer chooses to give. Not a required amount. We as customers are so brainwashed. 4951

I am not a mean person but all I have to say is, you are probably not receiving the tips you would like because even if you might think you do are doing a great job you have a crappy attitude.
Oh yeah, I tip very well when I go out to eat. 4951

I really dont care about any of this....I rarely even comment on this site.  I just found irony in the fact someone with such a condesending attitude, would be in the business of providing a warm, friendly and inviting experience while dining. 4951

I still think restaurants should pay their servers minimum wage or more, most restaurants charge enough for their menu items, but they get away with it and depend on their patrons to compensate their servers. Imagine if every company who provided a service depended on their employees to be compensated by patrons tips. You don't tip your grocery checker, lawn service, maid service, etc. Seems restaurants do this because they can.

I used to be friends with a gal that hated going out to eat because of this, she said restaurants should pay their employees like every other company does. 4951

My neice is a waitress at one of the chain restraunts and she does very well (tips). Why? because she has the right attitude (plus she is a genuinely nice person):  she knows that a family coming in is spending hard earned money on their dinner and it is probably the only night out for the week or month - so she wants to make it a great night, she knows without customers coming in she would not have a job, she does not go to each table looking at them, all cartooon like, as if they were little dollar signs sitting in seats.

Trust me, people can see the bad attitude and "what's in it for me" service a mile away. Good customers will tip appropriately. IF your tips are consitantly below average then take it as a hint that you need to be better at your job.
