About how far in advance do you start registering things for your wedding registry? How many months in advance should the groom order his tux? Everyone I ask is foggy on when these should take place. 4951

@lola:
Basic wedding registry stuff? We're only 25 & 26. Almost everything we own as far as our plates & bowls, flatware, etc. are all hand me downs. Granted they're all nice things that were well cared for, but they aren't what we wanted/ our style. Not to mention there are things we need but don't have, like serving platters, certain types of cups, serving utensils etc. that we just don't have but would use if we did have. We had our daughter when we were 18, so all of our income went into her rather than things for our home that we needed or even decor. We have decor but I either painted things myself or was a hand me down that was given to me that I spray painted or recovered. So the things that usually go on a registry. 4951

My soon to be Son in Law just ordered his Tux today and the wedding is April 5th.  My daughter and I have been doing things pretty much every weekend for a couple of months now to make sure everything is done.  She started freaking out as soon as she got engaged.  I told her we will get things done a little at a time and then it will all be done  Emoticon 4951

If you are registering at Macy's, go to Memorial City instead. Their selection is much greater than Deerbrook. Our consultant was awesome. I may need to edit but I think her name was Lisa Marie.

If you register too early, you run a risk of items no longer being available when your guests go shopping.

I would recommend putting some staples in the list just to get it started and add seasonal items as the summer approaches.

I cannot remember when my son did the wedding registry, but I think it was probably about 6 months before the big wedding.They registered at Macy's and Crate & Barrel.  They have some pretty cool stuff on their registry list.Have you gone to The Knot website and created a page?  That is a neat site.  Their page has their wedding details, how they met & links to their registries.My daughter & I ordered our dresses in July (wedding in January).  Luckily all the groomsmen are wearing black suits, so no tux rental. BUT had to buy black suit for my middle son. 4951

Do you think there will be a shower thrown for you? If so, I would register a couple of months before that. And I would think that 6 months is not too early - you can always change/update your registry online if items do change. Personally, I think BB&B is the best place to register. People can buy with coupons and, if it's a duplicate or you change your mind, you can return and you'll get the full price worth in in-store credit bc they don't give out gift receipts. Plus they have a HUGE selection and a Registry Dept. and rep to help you. (You can get Lenox, Waterford, etc. there as well.) Good luck and have fun! 4951

I could be just wrong but after being together, living together and having my own family and home for 10 years, I wouldnt register at all. I wouldnt register for a second wedding either. I would ask for no gifts at all. 4951

The tux deal is relatively quick....when he goes to pick out the style he wants, they will let him know when the groomsmen need to be fitted.....& I'd say register anytime prior to sending out the invitations. .... 4951
