Since I am a cancer patient and try and stay well...just like to check in and see if anyone in Kingwood you know of has the flu?  I can't take the vac so it makes it bad.  Trying to drink a lot of emergen C.  It was on the news so wondering if its bad in this area? 4951

I think the media over plays it...H1N1 is just another strain it just hits people harder and there does seem to be a few cases of people getting hit really hard. The important thing is wash hands and use the Vitamin D or the immune buster with VitD emergen-c  that one has a lot of extra stuff in it. If you feel you have it dont play it off, get in right away. The few cases of death were due to letting it linger too long and most of them had serious underlining conditions that added to the complications.I also will not get the vaccine because I still feel its a crap shoot on some people. I just am being extra careful in hygiene and keeping my immune system up. I know if I feel the least bit sick I will not hesitate to hit the docs! 4951

@Burnsway: I am the same way.  Always washing my hands.....always.  That's what got my attention is that most deaths came with underlying conditions.....  Since I am on cancer medication...I watch it closely also.  Off to the Doc I go if I feel bad.

@Ann2800 You stay well, ya here me?  I take zinc, lysine, effervescent immune support packets and chicken soup when I feel something coming on.  Also garlic. Tons of garlic. It is an antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial.  You have to use fresh cloves, chop them up and let them breathe for a little while to get the max benefit. Idk how long for sure. You'll have to google that.  All the old timers in my family from the old country swore by it, and they lived to be 100 or darn close! 4951

@topcat: I hear you but been sneezing and sore throat since I returned from Kroger.  Bought Zicam  that's zinc and I hope it works.  I have garlic pills but will go get fresh Garlic and some chicken tomorrow to make soup.  Does not feel like the flu  feels like a cold.  I don't know.  Really sucks...thanks!  also will look up Lysine...don't have that.

Having the flu is no fun. There was a time when I did not take the shot. I got the flu one year and have taken the shot each year after. It was miserable having the flu. A doctor was telling me that over 40,000 people die each year due to the flu. Those were shocking statistics!
Everyone has their thoughts on the vaccine. Some people have gotten flu even with the shot since there are several strains going around. As you guys mentioned earlier, hand washing, staying away from ill people, and keeping out of crowds can help. If you are compromised, you need to be very vigilant! I hope we all stay well. 4951

My DD had the flu 2-3weeks ago.  My mom now has it(got it from her work she thinks)- it's a different strain than my dd's was. 4951

@cabeuser: 40 thousand in the nation is not shocking statistics. They do not add into the equation that a good percentage of those 40,000 GOT THE SHOT TOO...they also dont add in that most did not die of the flu....they died of secondary infections such as pneumonia because THEY DIDN'T TREAT THEIR FLU when it got bad, or had serious underlining conditions. It most defiantly is a personal choice AND right to get the shot but Im not letting fake numbers, Big Pharm greed, and media scare make that decision for me.Even if I died of the flu tomorrow I would not say from my grave wish I got the shot because I truly dont think the shot works, I think its a crap shoot and a money maker scam off our fears.

@GoldenGirl: Me too....but I got the shot and I was not exposed just before the shot...it was over a month later and incubation of the virus is 7-10 days. I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia for a week...yuk!One reason I got so sick is because I didnt think it was the flu at first because I had gotten the shot and was covered! I laid very sick many days ignoring the obvious before I finally hit the ER.
