Depends on the magnitude of the lie, but I'd definitely be apprehensive. They'd have to earn it back if anything, that's for sure. 4951

You can't trust anyone that lies to you.  They will do it again if given the chance. 4951

@Ann2800: If they admitted later that they lied, without coercion, I think they can regain trust.  Even decent people can find themselves in a bad situation and because of fear, shame, etc, and may lie.  The key is if they DO finally admit the lie, that demonstrates that they have a conscience.   (of course, I'm referring to life altering type lies)But the real hard core liars, won't even do that.  They'll take their lies with them to the grave.  Astounding that these types of "people" will continue to lie no matter how much proof/evidence (and even witnesses) are brought out to counter them.  They have no shame, no remorse, no empathy, and will never come clean.  I believe only psychopaths are capable of that and they have no souls.  Stay away from them.  They take pleasure from inflicting pain and feel joy from pulling the wool over other's eyes. They can and will destroy your life if you let them.

It all depends on lots of things.

I'm about the most understanding type personality there is, I'm empathetic to a fault. It gets me hurt but it's just who I am and will always be. Because of that, I tend to not think badly of people for things that are basically commonly human.

I think there is a difference between lying to further ones self somehow and lying as a protective emotional move, complex relationships and things like that. Some people are con artists so lying is a way of life.

If someone comes to me with true honesty, I'm butter, because I automatically put myself in their place and all kinds of understanding and empathy takes over. I may not like it, it may hurt but I tend to get caught up with their position instead of my own. It is not a bad way to live your life, you just have to watch being taken advantage of. I also have a marvelous BS detector. Emoticon 4951

It depends on the lie and the harm that resulted. A small fib to hide a surprise or to benefit you in some way, then completely forgivable. A lie that harms or hurtfully deceives you, it would depend on the end result and the magnitude. It also depends on the intent behind it. I could give 1000 examples, but you know what I mean. 4951
