I know it's a good brand but wanted to know about the attachments. Specifically the grinder. I want to be able to grind corn for homemade cornbread and tortillas and also anything else like wheat, barley...Does anyone know or have info on using it.?    4951

I don't have a Kitchen Aid, but my father had a grinder that we used for cornmeal, cayenne pepper, and file (for gumbo).  The grinder had different plates for different amounts of grinding.  Cayenne and file was ground into a powder, and the plates had very small holes.  4951

I think that's the first time I have heard a woman say she's missing attachments. 4951

I know we have the grinder attachment, but I don't think we've ever used it. I do however have the ice cream attachment and it's awesome! 4951

Thanks. Homemade Ice Cream is awesome by the way. I went to the site and can see what the attachments do but as for user reviews I would need that before I splurge on it. I started buying a big bag of corn from Sams but want to attempt to make cornbread and tortillas and the attachment seems like a winner. I may just get it, it seems like it's the real deal. I've looked at other ones but this thing has multiple tools like a meat grinder and pasta maker.        4951

I was looking at getting one of these the other day, I have noticed the mixer bowl is much smaller now compared to when these mixers first came out back in 1992. When I was working part time at Sears while in school I remember when we first got them in. Now I see them being made in all differnt colors now but the bowl is so much smaller and the price has went up too. I wish it was still made with the larger bowl.  4951

I did not realize that the bowls is smaller! I know you can buy the mixer with the larger bowl. I have my mom's original Kitchenmaid mixer. Must be over 40 years old and works like a charm! 4951

@calliecat: While at Macy's last week I was looking at getting one because my hand mixer is too slow when using it for making my cakes from scratch, it works fine on the box cake mixes. So I happen to look at them and I noticed the one on display had a small bowl, so I said I will pass or consider it at another time. The bowl I use now for making my cakes is larger than the one that came with the Kitchen Aid mixer, so I doubt if it would hold all my ingredients. They are nice mixers, Kitchen Aid is a good brand too. 4951

I believe you can get a bigger bowl. They probably go with the small bowl to save money and reel you in for a bigger one. Would not surprise me. I'm going to start researching the attachments and see if it's a good option. I've seen machines that are made specifically for grinding so not sure if the Kitchen Aide one is that good, maybe more of a general purpose one. I had some homemade corn bread and homemade tortillas made from fresh grounded corn and it tasted a lot better.   4951

@bubbleyes72:
The regular bowl holds everything I have ever baked. Have had it for 11 years now. Bought myself the bigger bowl with the handle just for ease of use. And got the shield you can put over the bowl as it's mixing to keep stuff from flying out. My mixer has been thru hell and back in the last 11 years but man that thing is still mixing!

Trying to buy one in the classifieds, it's the Artisian model but they want $260. I can get a brand new one for that with a warranty! New or used same price, now that's salesmanship at it's finest.   4951

Look at getting a Bosch. It isn't as pretty as a Kitchen Aid, but it holds a lot more. It is also way more durable. My cousin went through 2 Kitchen Aids in just a couple of years. The motors kept burning out when she would make bread. I have a Bosch and I love it. 4951

Do you mean Grinder (like for meat, that is what is typically a grinder) or a grain mill attachment?The meat grinder is a good attachment, don't know about the grain mill. 4951
