I am visiting family for Christmas that raised their child differently than I am raising my daughter. They have made comments in the past about me not being protective enough. I am sure they will have more comments for me especially since she is super mobile now, How do you handle people judging your parenting choices?

I had four Kids In Four Years, And Believe Me Someone Will Always Have Something To Say. I Came Up With The Motto " Just Because im Different Doesn't Make Me Wrong." EspeciallyIf You Are A First Time Parent People SeEm To Think You're Ignorant, But On The Same Note Remember Some Advice Is Good Even If You Don't Use it Right Away 4951

Just smile and nod then do what you want. Its only a few hours. Nothing you do or say will change their minds. 4951

@N+T: ignore them!! Seriously be polite, thank them and then ignore it. Trust YOUR instincts- YOU know your baby best. If I had raised my kids like what was suggested - well
It just would not have been pretty.

Here's a short list of responses I have ready at all times...I'll have to keep that in mind.I'm glad that worked for you. This is what works best for my family. The most annoying thing to me is when someone speaks on behalf of my child. Example..."Taylor says she's sad because you won't let her have beef jerky."Emoticon 4951

Seriously though, I don't understand why moms are so damn judgemental of each other. My friend calls it "Other Mother Syndrome". Haha! It's so sad. Because at a time when women should pull together and support one another, it's as if women actually enjoy putting other moms down, just to make themself feel like they're a better parent. It's twisted. Being a parent is tough. Tougher than anyone expects going in to it. And for some crazy reason, people like to try and scare you about what's to come. I know I only have 1 child, and she's only 1, but that doesn't make me any less of a mother than someone with 6 kids. Every mim was a first time mom at one point...no need to treat other first time moms like they're stupid. 4951

after raising 8 kids I found out the hard way that no one agrees with the way you raise your kids . So I came up with a sure way to shut them up ....if you know  something about someone in their family , like  a high school drop out or someone got a DUI ...just look them in the eye & ask how that person is doing & what child raising techniques were used on them . Sure shuts them up quick & they willnever bother you again ...maybe will not ever speak to you again either. (LOL). 4951

@taramay: well you'll do fine - you've already got it figured out!! It was always a mystery to me why women do that to each other!!! Back in my day it was working VS SAHM moms!!

@Jpgurl: It's the same now. Plus the breastfeeders vs. the formula feeders. Maybe it's the hormones...but ***** be crazy!
